NFL – New York Jets at Buffalo Bills Betting Preview

After an exciting opening week of the NFL season week 2 begins in Buffalo as the Bills host their divisional rivals from New York as both them and the Jets go in search of their first win of the season after disappointing losses in the first round of games.

Buffalo were beaten in Baltimore while Cincinnati got the better of the Jets on Sunday and so just five days later both teams will set foot back onto the field with a point to prove to themselves and each other.

Buffalo Bills

Many people thought that the Bills would go into Baltimore and come away with the victory against an average looking defence with their own offense which has playmakers in all the key positions but their main players couldn’t get anything going and they ended up losing 13-7.

Tyrod Taylor couldn’t get a passing game going which was no real surprise given that Sammy Watkins was showing his injury again while the running game never got going at all which might actually be more of a concern for Rex Ryan who clearly cut an unhappy figure after that defeat on Sunday.

New York Jets

Anyone who watched the Jets’ home defeat to the Bengals will have seen a true Jets performance. In fairness for much of the game they played well. They got to Andy Dalton at will, they moved the ball when they had it but then when the big moments came they couldn’t convert. Nick Folk missed a PAT and a chip shot field goal and that cost the Jets dearly.

AJ Green benefitted from a rare poor game from Darrelle Revis and that gave the win to the Bengals but despite that the Jets should come away enthused about the rest of the season. Matt Forte did some good work and we know their defence is solid. Revis won’t have too many matches like that again and should be bang on it here with a point to prove.

Betting

There were a few bets I was considering in this match but I’ll just settle with two. I nearly took Sammy Watkins’ receiving yards to be under 47.5 as he’s likely to land on Revis Island and I expect him to be shut down especially with his injury but the line is probably skinny enough to avoid.

I am however going to take the New York Jets to win. I like their defence and I like their short range options on offense and when they start working the deep threat becomes more of a force. The Jets came away from the opening week with less to work on going into this match and off the back of a short turnaround that can be crucial. Usually I swerve road teams on a Thursday night but we are early enough in the season for that trend to not take effect yet. I’m on the Jets.

I’m also going for under 40.5pts too. I don’t see this one being a high scoring game. The Jets’ pass rush was in fine form on Sunday and I’m not expecting their secondary to leak like it did in that match while the Bills match up well in defence themselves. I suspect this will become a battle of field goals (I would have had a look at going over a fair line if there was one) and a real old school defensive tussle and 40.5pts looks beyond the two.
