The eight sides left standing in the NFL are two wins away from a trip to the Super Bowl and that should ensure the action is fast, frenetic and full of quality when the Divisional round of matches in the playoffs take place this weekend.
First up on Saturday night is the NFC clash between the number two seeds Atlanta Falcons and the three seeds Seattle Seahawks at the Georgia Dome. The reward is either hosting Green Bay in the Conference game next week or heading to Dallas.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons have produced the most powerful offense in the league this season and if they can keep on powering past sides they might well be heading for Houston in three weeks time. Matt Ryan has had one of his best seasons of his career but the best thing about that is although Julio Jones has been a key part of the offense they have been a little more balanced than usual.
Another reason why Atlanta are having such a good season is because their defence is much improved. That defence will be tested here but if they can make the big plays at the right time the Falcons will be very confident of moving through to next week.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks have already won a match in these playoffs. They disposed of the Detroit Lions last week but they go into this match as the outsiders despite their recent excellent record in the playoffs. They could easily have won back to back Super Bowls a couple of years ago but for a brain fade of a last play so they can’t be ruled out completely.
The success of the Seahawks has been based on their defence which has been crash hot for the last three seasons but some key injuries this season has meant they have shipped a few more points than usual which has piled the pressure on their offense to deliver. They have already beaten Atlanta once this season though and they’ll take confidence from that.
Betting
I think we are set for a high scoring match here. It is indoors and both offenses look in good touch. Seattle shipped 30pts or more in two of their last four regular season matches and an awful San Francisco side put up 23pts on it too which isn’t good. Atlanta regularly concede points but they pile them on too.
When these two sides met in Seattle earlier in the season there were 50pts but given that Seattle’s defence has weakened since then I fancy this will become even more of a shootout and I expect to see at least a couple more points in this one.
