NFL – Week 14 Sunday DFS Fantasy Breakdown

We have reached another NFL Sunday which means there is another $1m to be won playing fantasy football with our fantasy partners DraftKings. As well as the huge prize there, there are plenty of other excellent value games for us to enter teams into in the hunt for some big cash returns.

There are no byes this week so we have a much larger player pool to choose from on Sunday. Here is our guide to who we think you should and shouldn’t pick in your teams this week.

Quarterbacks

PICK – Matthew Stafford (Detroit) $6,800

Stafford has struggled at times this season without his regular go to man of the past in Calvin Johnson but he is getting better with Golden Tate slowly coming to the fore. Stafford goes up against a Chicago defence that was there for the taking in a match his side have to win and I’m expecting him to deliver a massive performance.

PICK – Kirk Cousins (Washington) $6,300

Earlier in the season I wouldn’t have gone near a quarterback up against this Philadelphia defence but it is a defence which has weakened significantly over the last month or so and now I think it is there to be taken on especially with a quarterback who is throwing the ball well and one who has plenty of receiving options like Cousins has. He should bank some significant yardage and with that plenty of points.

AVOID – Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay) $6,400

Weather conditions aren’t expected to aid passing at Lambeau Field and this isn’t a defence you can pass on easily so Rodgers may well struggle here. He hasn’t had his best season by any stretch and at this price given the snow forecast he is easy to avoid.

AVOID – Marcus Mariota (Tennessee) $6,200

Another defence that isn’t easy to throw on and I would imagine a lot of the playbook would revolve around DeMarco Murray and the run game which would restrict the points Mariota will score. Not many sides get much joy passing on this defence and I’m not expecting the Tennessee trigger man to fare any better.

Running Backs

PICK – Matt Forte (New York Jets) $6,800

The Jets stunk the place out last week and assuming we get a reaction from them this week then that should centre around Matt Forte against a 49ers run defence which is abysmal. Whoever starts at quarterback is going to have plenty of mental scarring or be new to the league so the leaning on the back will be huge. That should see Forte crank up the numbers this week.

PICK – Jeremy Hill (Cincinnati) $5,800

I know it is easy to pick on the Cleveland Browns but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t the right thing to go. Hill went off in a big way against them in the reverse fixture and with key weapons on the offense suffering big injuries since then Hill is likely to be used plenty in this match especially with the Bengals expected to be ahead for large periods. He is a pretty cheap pick all things considered.

PICK – Lamar Miller (Houston) $5,100

Houston come up against a powerful offense so the best way to combat that is to keep their own offense on the field for as long as possible and that means running the ball whenever they can. That is right up Miller’s street and with that in mind he should score pretty well for his price.

PICK – Todd Gurley (LA Rams) $5,000

We know it hasn’t been Gurley’s best season but I’m prepared to give him one final go against a pretty abject run defence that if anything is getting even worse. With the Falcons’ secondary not the best either the Rams should be able to move the ball down the field setting up positions for Gurley to power his way into the end zone from. This could be a rare good week in a poor campaign for the highly rated back.

AVOID – Theo Riddick (Detroit) $5,500

Riddick is another who is struggling for numbers and while the Chicago defence isn’t the best it is competent against the run and running backs rarely score huge totals against it. We think the Lions will pass the ball most of the time so we can ignore Riddick this week.

AVOID – Devontae Booker (Denver) $4,800

This is a poor match up for the rookie running back but in truth we’ve been disappointed with him since he replaced CJ Anderson as the starting back. You could argue he isn’t much of a price but the output is expected to be quite low so even at this price his value is negligible.

Wide Receivers

PICK – Mike Evans (Tampa Bay) $8,900

We know Evans is expensive but that is for good reason. New Orleans’ defence is very poor and Evans is likely to see a lot of action. His yardage could reach crazy numbers and if he can add a touchdown or two to that he will have more than paid for his slot in our sides.

PICK – Jamison Crowder (Washington) $5,600

There isn’t a huge amount more we can say about the Washington man that we haven’t said every other week that we have him in our sides. He is one of Cousins’ favourite receivers and with good reason and his output is likely to be strong once again.

PICK – Cole Beasley (Dallas) $5,200

We’re back to Dak’s favourite target again this week. The Cowboys are involved in a high profile match on Sunday so we’re expecting Prescott to look for Beasley as often as he can and we think Beasley will deliver the goods. At this price he’s an obvious pick.

PICK – Dontrelle Inman (San Diego) $4,800

Inman has been seeing a lot of the ball in the last couple of weeks and with this Panthers’ secondary being chewed up regularly at the minute there is no reason why Philip Rivers is going to stray from him now. At this price we should get some really good returns and he’ll pay for a bigger name to join our team too.

AVOID – Jordy Nelson (Green Bay) $6,800

Nelson is likely to have Richard Sherman on him for much of the night and with the snowy conditions combined with that bad match up he looks a little too expensive for us to be getting stuck into here. Nelson has gone well against the Seahawks in the past but we think things are against him here.

AVOID – Allen Robinson (Jacksonville) $5,000

We’ve been avoiding Robinson for much of the season but against a Minnesota defence that is one of the best around he is an obvious player to avoid this week. Not many get any joy from this Vikings defence let alone someone who has been as disappointing as he has been this season.

Tight Ends

PICK – Zach Ertz (Philadelphia) $4,800

We’ve picked Ertz a few times recently and we’re happy to do it again against a Washington side who have been quite friendly to tight ends in recent weeks. Carson Wentz has to look for his tight end a fair bit especially if Washington get in front and that should yield another tasty score.

PICK – Lance Kendricks (LA Rams) $2,800

The Atlanta Falcons just gave up a monster yardage to Travis Kelce in the tight end position and we’re going to hammer them again this week with the LA Rams’ man. Kendricks has been one of the more reliable offensive players for the Rams this season and at this price he should be in most teams.

AVOID – Dwayne Allen (Indianapolis) $2,600

Dwayne Allen went off against the Jets last week but this will be a different story. Indy are still sharing the workload between Allen and Doyle which isn’t ideal for solo fantasy scoring and he is a tight end to avoid in a match up which isn’t the best for him anyway.

Defences

PICK – Minnesota Vikings $3,900

They are the most expensive defence this week but it isn’t hard to see why. They go up against a Jacksonville side full of turnovers and in a bit of a rut. The Vikings go hunting turnovers and you would expect the opportunities to come in this match. A low scoring opponent and turnover potential should see the Vikings crank up the defensive scoring.

PICK – Buffalo Bills $2,500

We’ve mentioned in the past how Big Ben isn’t the same quarterback away from home that he is at home and with snow forecast in Buffalo for this match he might struggle further. The conditions should see the point scoring quite low and if the Bills can force Ben to throw dangerous passes they could well fill their boots with a pick or two.

AVOID – Philadelphia Eagles $2.900

We’ve mentioned above that the Eagles are starting to fade on defence and they face a pretty hot Washington attack here who aren’t turning the ball over too much and who are putting up plenty of points so the scoring potential for the Eagles isn’t as high as we would like for this price.
