Week 2 Sunday DFS Fantasy Breakdown
Now that we have a games data to work with we can use this to set our teams for Week 2 of the Fantasy season.
Quarterbacks
PICK – Joe Flacco – Baltimore Ravens – $6,500
Flacco has a very favourable matchup against the Cleveland Browns. The Browns were soundly beaten by Philadelphia in week one and lost starting QB Robert Griffin III to season ending injury. The Ravens WR corps showed some signs of having an emerging deep threat in Breshad Perriman.
PICK – Blake Bortles – Jacksonville Jaguars – $6,700
Bortles passed for over 300 yards against the Green Bay Packers in week one and I expect him to duplicate this in San Diego on Sunday. He has a lot of weapons to work with and he knows how to spread the ball around. Look for a big game against a possibly mentally shaken Chargers team
AVOID – Alex Smith – Kansas City – $6,300
Smith put up huge numbers in the Chiefs scintillating comeback against San Diego in Week 1. That is really not his game – he is a game manager that uses the running game and a ball control style to minimise risk. I see the Chiefs returning to that formula against a tough Texans defence in week 2.
Running Backs
PICK – DeAngelo Williams – Pittsburgh Steelers – $7,100
Williams produces whenever the Steelers ask him too. He gets to start the next two weeks before LeVeon Bell returns from his suspension. This is a divisional game for the Steelers but I can see Williams getting some yards and more importantly touchdowns on Sunday.
PICK – CJ Anderson – Denver Broncos – $6,800
Anderson had a strong showing in week one’s season opener against Carolina. In week 2 he goes up against an Indianapolis defence that struggles in run defence. The Broncos OL will open lots of holes for Anderson and he produce big.
PICK – Tevin Coleman – Atlanta Falcons – $4,500
Coleman gained almost 100 receiving yards in week 1’s loss to Tampa Bay. The Raiders struggle against RB’s catching the ball in the middle of the field. I can see Coleman being a danger on Sunday with value for his pass catching ability.
AVOID – Jamal Charles – Kansas City – $6,300
This is not a favourable matchup for Kansas City RB’s. The Texans have a fast aggressive defence that is tough to run on. Charles is also returning from a 2015 season ending injury so the Chiefs are rotating him more this year. I don;t think he gets enough carries to make a huge impact.
AVOID – Eddie Lacy – Green Bay Packers – $6,000
I think Lacy will produce this season but the Vikings, in spite of their poor week one showing have a strong run defence. They will look to contain Lacy and I think they will do a decent enough job for him to be avoided in week two.
Wide Receivers
I think Antonio Brown ($9,900) and Julio Jones ($9,200) if the latter is recovered from injury, will get big scores. BUT they are so expensive so I have opted not to select either here.
PICK – Allen Robinson – Jacksonville Jaguars – $7,800
Robinson was quiet in week one as QB Blake Bortles spread the ball around a lot. I can see more of a focus on the deep ball against the Chargers and Robinson will benefit most.
PICK – Amari Cooper – Oakland Raiders – $7,600
Cooper was instrumental in Oakland’s come from behind win over the Saints in week one. He had a number of catches over 30 yards albeit he was scoreless aside from a two point conversion. The Raiders should get a lot of passing yards as their OL will keep QB Derek Carr clean against a poor Falcons pass rush. Cooper could go for big yardage again.
PICK – DeSean Jackson – Washington Redskins – $6,300
Jackson went over 100 yards against the Steelers in week one. In week two he faces a Cowboys secondary that will struggle as the season goes on because the Cowboys cannot rush the passer.
PICK – Michael Floyd – Arizona Cardinals – $5,900
The Cardinals had a tough loss to New England in week one and need to bounce back in week two against Tampa Bay. Tampa have struggled against bigger WR’s and Floyd fits that bill. Carson Palmer will have a decent game and Floyd will be the biggest beneficiary.
AVOID – Dez Bryant – Dallas Cowboys – $8,400
Rookie QB Dak Prescott had a strong debut in week one. This week he gets to play division archrival Washington. The Redskins couldn’t handle Antonio Brown speed in week one but I think they do better against Bryant who is a bigger receiver.
AVOID – T.Y. Hilton – Indianapolis Colts – $7,000
Hilton and the Colts get to face off against the best defence in the NFL – the Broncos on Sunday. I see them having a long afternoon against the Broncos CB trio.
Tight Ends
PICK – Jordan Reed – Washington Redskins – $6,800
See DeSean Jackson above!
PICK – Eric Ebron – Detroit Lions – $3,500
I like Ebron a lot and post Megatron Ebron could become QB Matt Stafford’s safety blanket. If the Lions can stop the run against Tennessee then they can play ball control offence. Ebron could be key in moving the sticks on 3rd down.
AVOID – Antonio Gates – San Diego Chargers – $4,500
With WR Keenan Allen out for the season Gates could see a lot of targets against the Jags. The Jags know if they can stop Gates then they will slow down the Chargers offence. Look for them to key on him and keep him quiet.
Defence
PICK – New England Patriots – $3,000
The Patriots excel in divisional games. Miami actually put up a much better performance than I expected losing in Seattle in week 1. Their offence wasn’t fantastic however and whilst they will improve their yardage totals against New England I can see field goals rather than touchdowns being scored.
PICK – Baltimore Ravens – $3,000
In week one the Ravens held the Bills to 160 total yards. In week two they play the Cleveland Browns. THE CLEVELAND BROWNS!
AVOID – Cincinnati Bengals – $2,800
The Bengals play the high-octane Pittsburgh Steelers offence in week two. It is a divisional game and they are generally close but I can see the Steelers getting lots of yard and a decent amount of points too.
