Another NFL Sunday has arrived and as with the previous two there are some excellent value DFS fantasy games with our partners DraftKings where you can win as much as $50,000 for as little as $3. That is tremendous value and there are plenty of other wonderful games and brilliant ways to make money.
In order to do that we need to pick some high scoring teams and this post will hopefully help you do just that. We’ll be entering a few line ups across the various games and these will be some of the players we will be picking and avoiding.
Quarterbacks
PICK – Philip Rivers (San Diego) $6,700
I was a little concerned about the Chargers trigger puller in light of the Keenan Allen injury but Rivers responded with four touchdown passes against a supposedly tight Jacksonville defence. He goes up against a much more questionable Colts defence here and should feast on that. Expect big points from the Bolts star here.
PICK – Matt Stafford (Detroit) $6,800
With Clay Matthews now ruled out for the Packers life should be a lot easier for Matthew Stafford in this match. He has lost his main target for this season with the retirement of Megatron but Golden Tate is an able replacement and he might well run up the yards with check down plays and the tight ends up the middle. We’re expecting him to go well here.
AVOID – Russell Wilson (Seattle) $7,100
The Seahawks offense hasn’t really got going yet this season and we’re not sure a fired up San Francisco defence is the time for him it to power up. I would imagine there would be a lot more running of the ball than passing so at this price Wilson offers little appeal to us.
Running Backs
PICK – Todd Gurley (LA Rams) $7,100
This amount of cash might look a lot to spend on a guy who has offered nothing for two weeks but I’m prepared to keep the faith with him. He goes up against a Buccaneers defence which is nothing like as strong as the ones he has faced so far this season and that is a positive. I’m expecting him to get plenty of carries and in theory plenty of points so this price could look decent value come the end of the day.
PICK – Matt Forte (New York Jets) $7,000
Matt Forte was quite superb last week and off the back of the extended week I’m expecting him to be just as potent against a Kansas City side who are leaking 126 yards per game on the ground so far this season. Forte also carries a threat through the air too which makes him even more attractive and at this price there is plenty of upside to him.
PICK – Melvin Gordon (San Diego) $5,800
Certainly no complaints about this price and with Danny Woodhead now done for the season we know we won’t have to share snaps with anyone else barring unforeseen circumstances. Indianapolis are terrible against the run and if that doesn’t change here then Gordon should run riot.
PICK – Matt Asiata (Minnesota) $3,000
With Adrian Peterson out for the foreseeable the Vikings need someone else to assist Sam Bradford. Chances are snaps will be split between Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata but with his threat in the passing game too we think that Asiata could provide the better value of the two. He saw some snaps in the win over Green Bay last week and is as cheap as chips here.
AVOID – Latavius Murray (Oakland) $5,700
Murray has started the season well but not many backs have had much joy out of this Titans side yet this season and it might be that the Raiders attack through the air in this match, not that they will get much attacking done in what we see as a defensive battle. This looks a fair amount for a guy who may offer little.
AVOID – Carlos Hyde (San Francisco) $4,400
Even fewer running backs have had much joy out of this Seattle defence and that is particularly true about number one receivers. Todd Gurley didn’t even get loose change out of this defence last week and Hyde is unlikely to go much better. He looks cheap but there is still little value on him.
Wide Receivers
PICK – Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona) $6,900
Larry Fitzgerald has begun the season on fire and Buffalo’s backfield gave up some serious yardage through the air last week against the New York Jets. Carson Palmer operates a much stronger offense than the Jets one so I’m expecting more carnage against the Bills here. Fitzgerald can be the chief destroyer in the receiving ranks.
PICK – Marvin Jones Jr (Detroit) $6,200
With the Detroit quarterback one of our picks it makes sense to take the man he is throwing the ball to the most this season. With Green Bay having a couple of sizeable players missing defensively then we can expect some decent yardage out of the Lions in this match and Jones looks to be the go to man now. Stefon Diggs took this defence apart last week and Jones Jr can follow suit here.
PICK – Mike Wallace (Baltimore) $5,000
Jacksonville have already surrendered six touchdowns through the air this season and Mike Wallace has bagged all three passing touchdowns that Joe Flacco has provided and while Pitta looks to be targeted more there is no doubt Wallace’s impact on the catches that he makes is more significant. Against a defence that must be reeling he looks a good value play.
PICK – Victor Cruz (New York Giants) $4,700
Much of the talk heading into this match has been about the battle between Josh Norman and Odell Beckham Jr and unlike in week one where the Redskins star corner didn’t cover Antonio Brown throughout we’re expecting him to cover OBJ continuously here. That means Eli will have to look elsewhere and with Sterling Shepard starting to become known it could be Cruz who is the man to benefit at a decent price.
PICK – Tajae Sharpe (Tennessee) $4,700
Oakland have been terrible on passing defence this season and the rookie Sharpe could be the man to take advantage of that here. It is time for this Titans offense to stand up and be counted and Sharpe is starting to make a name for himself in Tennessee. That name can increase with a big performance here.
AVOID – AJ Green (Cincinnati) $8,100
Few quarterbacks and receivers get much joy out of the Denver defence and I’m not expecting this Cincinnati combination to go much better here either. Dalton is going to be under regular pressure so any plays Green sees are likely to be short ones and the route to the end zone might not be open. He’s way too expensive for us.
AVOID – Mike Evans (Tampa Bay) $7,000
LA Rams are another defence which you don’t get a lot of change from and Mike Evans could struggle with that as a result. LA have barely given up a decent play through the air in their opening two matches and while Winston is starting to really impress this might not be a fruitful combination here.
Tight Ends
PICK – Eric Ebron (Detroit) $3,700
Green Bay gave up a few plays and a touchdown to Kyle Rudolph last week and with Eric Ebron being targeted as much as he was for Detroit last week this could be a favourable match up for the Lions in what should be a match full of passing. At this price we should get a solid output and free up some funds for the bigger stars.
PICK – Jack Doyle (Indianapolis) $2,500
With Donte Moncrief out for the Colts in this match then I’m expecting the tight ends to become a much bigger part of the offense. Dwayne Allen is likely to be on the field for much of the time but Doyle has had plenty of targets in the opening two weeks and if the Chargers cover the more experienced Allen it could be to Doyle’s advantage at a very cheap price.
AVOID – Jimmy Graham (Seattle) $3,000
Big names often attract decent pick ups but I’m not expecting much from the former Saint who is making his way back from injury and who hasn’t done much of any note yet this season. That match is expected to be a defensive slugfest and that isn’t a scenario we want to have a tight end in.
Defences
PICK – Miami Dolphins $3,000
We hate being obvious in our fantasy breakdowns but Miami are playing the Cleveland Browns. Not just that but they are playing the THIRD CHOICE Cleveland Browns quarterback. All sorts of carnage could take place here and the Fins D should run up the points as a result.
PICK – Baltimore Ravens $2,500
There was a lot of pre-season hype around the Jacksonville Jaguars this season but not much appears to have changed. Blake Bortles still doesn’t convince and this side still give up plenty of sacks. Baltimore’s defence isn’t what they once were but they read plays so well and will hunt both the ball and the quarterback. At this price they’re a no brainer too.
AVOID – Green Bay Packers $3,000
Clay Matthews is out. I repeat CLAY MATTHEWS IS OUT. Need I say more? Well if I do then Morgan Burnett is out as well so that is two key cogs in the Packers defence missing. That takes away sack and interception potential so we’ll sit the Pack D this week.
