NFL – Week 6 Sunday DFS Fantasy Breakdown

We’ve already reached week 6 of the 2016 NFL season! Welcome to our fantasy football preview with the lure of a $1,000,000 first prize with our official fantasy partners DraftKings.

NOTE – the selections are just for the Sunday 1pm and 4pm Eastern kickoffs.

Quarterbacks

Drew Brees and Russell Wilson would be obvious choices for week 6 given the teams they are playing. I prefer to look for value picks elsewhere.

PICK – Ben Rothlisberger – Pittsburgh -$7,500

Yes, Big Ben is expensive but the Steelers play the floundering Dolphins on Sunday. The return of RB LeVeon Bell has re-energised the team and the offence is now at its potent best. I can see big games for Antonio Brown and Sammie Coates too!

PICK – Marcus Mariota – Tennessee – $6,100

The Titans play the Browns on Sunday and I like the matchup for Mariota. The Browns defence struggles against TE’s, deep passes and strong running games. The Titans possess all 3. I like Mariota to score a rushing touchdown and utilise TE Delanie Walker and RB DeMarco Murray in the short passing game. For the price I think Mariota has decednt value.

PICK – Tyrod Taylor – Buffalo – $5,300

Buffalo play the 49ers on Sunday. I like Taylor here because of his ability to run with the ball. He will be missing his top WR Sammie Watkins but I think his supporting players can get him a couple of passing touchdowns. He is also a threat to score a rushing touchdown.

AVOID – Cam Newton – Carolina – $8,300

Newton is an injury risk for Sunday but he is still the most expensive QB available for week 6 games. This is because the Panthers play the Saints and their porous defence. I’m not sure the Panthers have shown me enough this year to prove they can match the Saints in a high scoring shootout. The uncertainty with Newton’s health is enough to scare me.

AVOID – Dak Prescott – Dallas – $5,800

Prescott has been magnificent thus far in 2016 but this weeks matchup is tough. The strength of the Cowboys, their OL will come face-to-face with a Green Bay front 7 that has been carrying their team. There is also the looming presence of the return of QB Tony Romo from injury. I think this will be the first time this season that Prescott looks like a rookie.

Running Backs

PICK – LeVeon Bell – Pittsburgh – $7,900

Yes, he is top priced in this market but he is unstoppable, especially in the passing game. The matchup is excellent with the Dolphins in free fall right now. I know it’s a big claim but you can expect Bell to go for 150+ combined yards on 20+ touches in the game. If he gets that many touches then the chances are he scores too.

PICK – Spencer Ware – Kansas City – $5,300

The Raiders have had massive issues all season (and for the last 12 years) covering RB’s in the passing game. Ware is an absolute monster out of the backfield. A slight concern is 1 touchdown on 65 touches thus far in 2016. Also Jamal Charles, the Chiefs number 1 RB is back and fit for the game. I expect him to rotate with Ware throughout the game. Ware will get enough touches to be valuable.

PICK – Ryan Matthews – Philadelphia – $4,900

Matthews doesn’t have huge rushing or receiving numbers in 2016 but he does have 4 touchdowns. In week 6 the Eagles play divisional rival Washington and their 30th ranked run defence. This is a favourable matchup for Matthews and I wouldn’t be surprised if he scores on Sunday.

AVOID – Todd Gurley – Los Angeles – $6,700

The Rams have not been able to get their running game going in 2016. Part of that is that defences do not fear the Rams passing attack. This means they can focus on stopping Gurley. It has worked as Gurley is averaging only 2.7 yards per carry on over 100 rushes. The week 6 opponent Lions defence is decent against the run so don’t expect a breakout game here.

AVOID – Isaiah Crowell – Cleveland – $4,600

Crowell and WR Terelle Pryor have been bright spots for the Browns but this weeks matchup is tough. The Titans have the number 2 fantasy defence against the run. Look for the Titans to force the Browns to pass by shutting down Crowell. That way their fearsome pass-rush can go to work.

Wide Receivers

PICK – Allen Robinson – Jacksonville – $7,800

Robinson’s overall numbers are down as the Jaguars passing game has failed to match 2015’s breakout. However, he does have 3 touchdowns in 4 games. This week he faces a porous Bears defence that has had trouble against top WR’s. This is a good place for Robinson to have a top 10 fantasy game!

PICK – Amari Cooper – Oakland – $7,500

Yes, the Raiders face Kansas City and CB Marcus Peters in week 6 – to some this looks like a tough assignment for Cooper. In week 5 Cooper was inches from a 4 TD game. Two fades from QB Derek Carr were caught just out of the end zone and the debacle over the pass interference call over-ruling a TD negated a 3rd. As it was Cooper still had a 130+ yard day with a touchdown. Peters leads the NFL with 4 interceptions but he does give up catches. He will cover Cooper and Michael Crabtree at times during the game. Cooper has the quicks to produce.

PICK – Sammie Coates – Pittsburgh – $4,700

Coates had his breakthrough game at the pro level in week 5 with a 6-139-2td game. The thing is he dropped a sure-fire 3rd touchdown catch! The Steelers play the Dolphins in week 6 and I can see a 500 yard of offence meaning Coates will get his catches and yards once more.

PICK – Jamison Crowder – Washington – $4,400

Crowder does have a tough matchup against the Eagles in week 6 but he has multiple value. He excels at YAC and he returns punts (touchdown in week 5). I also think the Redskins could use him at times out of the backfield – like the Rams use Tavon Austin. I don’t think he has a massive game but he has the ability to break tackles and that often leads to touchdowns.

AVOID – Julio Jones – Atlanta – $8,900

I love what Julio Jones can do on a football field since his college days at Alabama. He is capable of the ridiculous as shown with his 300 yard game in week 4. Week 6, features a game in Seattle against the Legion on Boom. I think Atlanta will rely on their RBs out of the backfield similar to the Denver game in week 5. Seahawks CB Richard Sherman will cover Jones for most of the game and whilst he won’t stop Jones he will limit his chances of a big game.

AVOID – DeAndre Hopkins – Houston – $7,500

I like Hopkins too but the Texans QB Brock Osweiler has been erratic at best and if anything he is getting worse as the season unfolds. This inconsistency doesn’t help Hopkins chances of a big game against the Colts.

Tight Ends

PICK – Delanie Walker – Tennessee – $5,500

The Browns were gouged in week 5 by the Patriots TE duo for almost 200 yards and 3 tds. Walker, as Marcus Mariota’s favourite target is a must play in week 6. Envision something like 7 catches for 85 plus yards and a score.

PICK – Travis Kelce – Kansas City – $5,000

The Raiders have struggled mightily against TE’s thus far in 2016 with the exception is the Ravens game. The Chiefs play a ball control type of offence with lots of short and medium passes. Kelce will be on the end of a lot of targets in this game. He will be matched up at times with rookie S Karl Joseph. Joseph had two takeaways in week 5 but also gave up some catches.

AVOID – Martellius Bennett – New England – $4,500

Bennett had the best game if his fantasy career last week with 3 touchdowns catches. He overshadowed Rob Gronkowski from a fantasy perspective in that game. I can’t see a repeat in week 6. I think Gronkowski has the bigger day against the Bengals.

Defence

PICK – Pittsburgh – $3,400

The Steelers defence isn’t great but the Miami offence they face in week 6 is poor at best. There is a threat from WR Jarvis Landry but that is mostly in the short passing game. The Steelers should score at will forcing Miami to pass the ball = sacks and interception opportunities for the Steelers defence.

PICK – Tennessee – $3,300

The Titans will run the ball, controlling the clock and then key on the Browns running game. This will force the Browns QB (whoever they insert in week 6) to have to throw in the teeth of a pass-rush that got 7 sacks in week 5. The Titans defence will score points in week 6!

AVOID – Seattle – $3,600

The Seahawks will slow down the Atlanta offence in week 6 but they won’t stop it completely. The underneath passing game is where Atlanta will have success. This will enable them to score 17-20 points in the game.
