The second set of group matches take place across Brazil in the Rio2016 Olympics on Sunday and for those who won their first match there is a chance to qualify for the quarter finals without the pressures of needing something from their final matches. Those who didn’t need to win and have the pressure all on them.
Group A
We are still waiting the first goal in this group after two surprising stalemates on Thursday. I’m pretty sure we’ll get some goals in this set of matches though. The first match in this group on Sunday sees Denmark taking on South Africa. Denmark have to make a move having played Iraq first time out while South Africa have played Brazil and can get to work now.
The other match sees Neymar and co back in action when Brazil take on Iraq. Brazil surprisingly couldn’t beat South Africa in their first match so the pressure is even more on them to win this one. Iraq will be looking to keep things tight.
Group B
This is where all the action was on the opening day of competition as Sweden and Colombia drew 2-2 and Nigeria and Japan played out a 5-4 win to Nigeria so we can expect excitement in the two matches on Sunday.
Those matches see Sweden taking on Nigeria at 11pm UK time with Nigeria knowing they are through with a win while the later game sees Japan looking to revive their campaign when they go up against Colombia, who were a little fortunate to draw in their first match.
Group C
This group gets the second set of matches underway as Fiji take on Mexico in the first game of the day before Germany go up against South Korea in a match which could well entertain if both play like they did in the first game.
South Korea beat Fiji 8-0 on Thursday and a win here will see them into the knockout stages while Fiji have to beat Mexico to stay alive. That is unlikely though it has to be said and indeed the defending champions are no bigger than 1/40 to win.
Group D
Finally we have a very interesting group after Argentina’s demise to Portugal on the first day of action. Portugal and Honduras both won their first matches so their match will see the winners into the knockout stages while the pressure is all on Argentina when they take on Algeria in a match where the losers will be out of the tournament.
Betting
I enjoyed the first day of football action in this tournament and am looking forward to some big matches across the eight games on Sunday too. Most of the match odds look about right to me although it is the nature of the beast that there will be a surprise result or two along the way.
As far as betting goes I am going for goals in a couple of matches. The first of those is the match between Sweden and Nigeria and I’m also going to take the goals in the other match in that group which is Colombia against Japan.
All four sides were attacking in the first games and I’m not expecting anything to change here. It wasn’t just the attacking that caught the eye though it was the wide open and pretty average defences on show and that signals even more goals to me in Manaus where the defenders are known to struggle due to the intense heat.
You can get 4/5 on both matches having over 2.75 goals which means that if we get three goals in a game we get a half win and more than that and we win in full. I expect the goals to flow in both matches so they look well priced for a couple of nice singles.
