Paris 2024 Olympics – Tennis Wednesday 31st July Tips and Betting Preview

The Paris 2024 Olympics tennis competition continues at Roland Garros on Wednesday as we head towards finding out who will compete in the medal matches in all five of the draws towards the end of the week.

We have seen some really competitive tennis so far in this tournament and with all of the draws bubbling up nicely we should be in for another excellent day of action across all of the courts with some big names on show throughout the day.

Men’s Singles

We play down to the quarter finals in the men’s draw on Wednesday when the entire last 16 is played out on the show courts. That means we have the likes of Novak Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Carlos Alcaraz and the defending champion Alexander Zverev on show as well as a couple of dark horses who will be looking to continue the run of surprise medallists with Taylor Fritz and Lorenzo Musetti among them.

I’ve had a good look through the card and the only bet I would be really keen to get involved in would be for Casper Ruud to beat Francisco Cerundolo, who must surely be feeling the pace now having won the title in Croatia last week and having played on nearly every day since he has been in France. His latest match against Ugo Humbert was a humdinger as well but I’m on Ruud to win this outright so I don’t really need to get involved again.

Women’s Singles

It is women’s quarter final day in Paris as we find out which four players will fight for the medals over the remainder of the week and all eyes will undoubtedly be on the overwhelming favourite Iga Swiatek as she bids to follow up her French Open success when she faces off against Danielle Collins who is looking to finish her career with Olympic gold. There have been a number of shocks in the women’s draw which has left plenty of competitive matches.

One of those competitive matches could well come in the next session where Marta Kostyuk feels a big price to get the better of Donna Vekic who might be more inconvenienced by the slower conditions at this time of the evening. These two met at the French Open where Vekic won 75 64 but I fancy the Ukrainian to turn the tables here. Vekic had a good win over Coco Gauff in the previous round but Gauff beat herself a little in that match. Kostyuk got the better of Maria Sakkari in a great match in the previous round and we know that Ukrainian players feel an extra buzz representing their country with all that is going on back home at the minute. I could just about accept Vekic as the favourite here but I have this near enough a 50:50 match so the 13/10 available on the Ukrainian star feels a big price to me.

Doubles

We have plenty of doubles action on Wednesday as the pairs draws look to catch up with the rest of the competition. There are matches in the men’s doubles, women’s doubles and the mixed doubles with some good pairs up against each other. The first two quarter finals take place in the men’s draw and the pick of the matches is the one between Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal who meet the American duo of Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek. The Spanish pair are expected to go all the way in this competition but I’ve been convinced that when they come up against true doubles specialists they will get found out and that could happen here. Ram is one of the best doubles players in the world while Krajicek has been ranked number one in doubles and has won the French Open here last year. Alcaraz has a singles match earlier in the day so the Spanish pair won’t be fresh and having survived a match tiebreak against a weaker pair on Tuesday evening, I think this could be the time the elite singles duo get found out.

The other bet I like in the doubles on Wednesday comes in the mixed doubles where it is quarter finals day and the match that interests me is the North American clash between Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff and the Canadian duo of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriella Dabrowski and I fancy the Canadian pair in this one. This will be the third match of a very busy day for Fritz and in the Paris heat of Wednesday that is a tough ask. The two women both have women’s doubles action so nobody will be completely fresh but Auger-Aliassime plays a lot more doubles throughout the season than Fritz and Dabrowski is third in the WTA doubles rankings right now so the Canadian pairing have enough going for them to upset the Americans at an odds against price, especially having taken care of the fancied British pair of Joe Salisbury and Heather Watson in the previous round.
