PDC World Darts Championship 2023 – Day 4 Afternoon Session Tips and Betting Preview

There is another double header session of action at the PDC World Darts Championship on Sunday and the first of them contains three first round matches and a second round game as eight players take to the stage looking to make progress in the competition.

We have arguably the pick of the second round matches so far in this session and six players who should offer up some competitive action in the first round to begin what looks like an excellent day of darts.

Madars Razma vs Prakash Jiwa

The opening match of the session sees Madars Razma looking to make the second round for the second time in his career when he takes a Prakash Jiwa who was a regular on the PDC circuit until recently but who is making his debut here.

Jiwa appearing here is a good story but his game has faded fast hence why he is no longer on the tour. Razma isn’t a superstar by any stretch of the imagination by he is improving all the time and even though he has only won one of the four matches he has played on this stage, and that was only against Toru Suzuki who showed earlier this week how that isn’t much of a form guide, I would expect the Latvian to come through here unscathed. Razma is capable of good things and if he is on a going day he should win this 3-0 but we saw last month at the Players Championship Finals when he didn’t even average 80 that consistency isn’t his forte. I’m happy to leave this one alone.

Karel Sedlacek vs Raymond Smith

The second match of the afternoon could quickly turn into the pick of the games as the Czech star Karel Sedlacek takes on the Australian player who had an excellent run here last year in Raymond Smith and who will want to emulate that here.

Sedlacek has had some decent results on the tour this season but he arrives at Alexandra Palace having won just three of his last 10 matches in all competitions and he is going to need to ensure that he is at his best if he is going to win this one. Sedlacek is likely to average in the low 90s if he plays well but the question is whether that will be enough because Smith was in action at the Darts Live League a couple of weeks ago when he was the weekly winner and averaged over 100 in some of the matches. He won 12 out of his first 13 matches in that competition and ended up playing 17 matches in all so he is competitively bedded in. Smith averaged into the 90s in all three matches he won at this tournament last year and if he does that again here I think he’ll have too much for the Czech.

Luke Woodhouse vs Vladyslav Omelchenko

History will be made in the third match of the afternoon when a Ukrainian player competes in the tournament for the first time when Vladyslav Omelchenko takes on Luke Woodhouse in the last of the first round contests in the session.

Woodhouse has had some good results here in the past and he’ll be expected to cruise through this match against an opponent who didn’t have to beat anyone of note to make it here and who will be playing at this level for the first time. It would be a real surprise if Woodhouse doesn’t win this 3-0 but he can sometimes get a bit giddy on the doubles and isn’t always the easiest of favourites to back. However he plays here though it would be incredible if Woodhouse doesn’t win this 3-0 but at 4/7 that is one for those who are putting an accumulator together.

Damon Heta vs Adrian Lewis

The second round match in this session sees the World Cup winner Damon Heta taking on the unseeded player they all wanted to avoid in the former champion here in the form of Jackpot, Adrian Lewis.

Nobody wanted to draw Lewis in the second round and they certainly wouldn’t have wanted to after the way the former champion played in his first round match on Friday afternoon. Lewis averaged 93.57 in a 3-0 win over Daniel Larsson and after two sets that was a great deal higher but for him needing a few darts to get over the line. Heta could certainly have done without a difficult draw because his record in recent televised events has been terrible. He hasn’t won a knockout match outside of the World Series since he lifted the World Cup alongside Simon Whitlock back in June and in truth he hasn’t been competitive in many of those either. Lewis has had a match on the stage and looked good and admitted he has put a lot of work in ahead of this tournament. He is huge value for me here.
