There were due to be two matches in the Premier League on Tuesday evening but once again one has bitten the dust because of Covid which leaves us with just the one game as Brighton and Hove Albion play host to Chelsea.
Chelsea pretty much got eliminated from any remaining semblance of a title race at the weekend and might begin to turn their attention to other things. Brighton are on course for their best season ever at their current pace.
Brighton and Hove Albion
Brighton keep on punching above their weight and a win here could see them move up to eighth in the table. They are a really good team to watch and have the balance between style and substance. The only thing they lack is a potent goalscorer. If they can ever find themselves one of them then they are going to be a force to be reckoned with because they don’t concede many goals and have complete comfort and control of the football.
The Seagulls head into this match off the back of just one defeat in their last eight matches, winning two of their last four, so they are in pretty good form and with absolutely no relegation concerns this term they can look up and see how high they can finish this term. That will probably be determined by the amount of goals they score but seven of those in their last four matches suggests they slowly getting it right in that department.
Chelsea
The Blues would have started this season with the intention of winning the league and anything else would have been considered a failure. They are not going to win the league so they are going to have to come up with something in the cup competitions to make a success of the campaign. They have made the Carabao Cup final which is encouraging but even though they are not going to win the title they will still want to pick up results to keep their position as respectable as possible.
Chelsea have faded out of the title picture with a run of just one win in their last six Premier League matches and unless that form changes soon they are going to be looking over their shoulder to preserve their top four finish. One thing which might buoy Chelsea is that only Manchester City have more points than them on their travels this term but you sense all isn’t quite well at Stamford Bridge at the minute.

Team News
Tariq Lamptey is expected to start this match despite only starting on the bench on Friday evening. Adam Lallana picked up an injury in that game and he is expected to join Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy on the side.
Chelsea are still missing a few players themselves with Andreas Christensen out with Covid while Recce James and Ben Chilwell are injured. Mason Mount and Jorginho could come into the side as they look to bounce back from defeat on Saturday.
Betting
These two met at Stamford Bridge three weeks ago and Brighton and Hove Albion claimed a deserved draw when they equalised in injury time and I think they are a good bet to avoid defeat here too. There hasn’t been anything convincing about Chelsea in recent times and the Amex Stadium is beginning to be a tough place to go, not least because Brighton rarely give opposing teams much of the ball.
Chelsea are missing some big players for this match. As well as the set of defenders they have who are injured or have Covid, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is away at the Africa Cup of Nations. Brighton have Yves Bissouma there which is a concern but it didn’t really detract from their play against Crystal Palace and although Chelsea are an upgrade on that, Brighton have avoided defeat in four of their last five against the Blues and can do that again here.
