The second set of matches in the Premier League season get going on Saturday on a day where once again we have the usual three kick offs on a day where those who weren’t at home last week will play in front of their fans for the first time this term.
Two of the six matches are live on TV for us in the UK and then there are the various programmes, social feeds and everything else to keep up to date on the other four matches across the course of the afternoon.
Early Kick Off
The action begins at Anfield where Liverpool will play in front of a full house for the first time in almost 18 months when they host a Burnley side who won there on their last visit. Liverpool will be looking to build on a good opening win at Norwich last week while Burnley were beaten in their opening match so they will be hoping to pick up another three points at Anfield to get their campaign up and running.
3pm Matches
The champions Manchester City will be involved in a rare 3pm sighting on Saturday when they play their first home match of the season against the team which won the Championship last term in Norwich City. The other appealing match in the 3pm games comes from Elland Road where Leeds United will look to make up for their mauling at the hands of Manchester United last weekend when they play host to an Everton team looking to open their campaign with successive wins.
Aston Villa were surprisingly defeated on the opening day of the season and they will be looking to make up for that when they play host to another side who lost their first game of the new campaign in Newcastle United. There is one other match in the traditional 3pm slot on Saturday and it is the latest London derby when Crystal Palace look to pick up their first points of the season when they welcome Brentford to Selhurst Park.

Late Game
The action concludes on Saturday evening at the Amex Stadium when two sides who picked up three points on the opening day meet when Brighton and Hove Albion look to follow up their win over Burnley last week when they entertain the third newly promoted side in action on the day in the form of Watford, a team who produced a very good win over Aston Villa last week and who will fancy their chances of getting something from this match.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the day which comes from Villa Park where I’m expecting to see a few goals as Aston Villa take on Newcastle United. Both these sides looked very shaky at the back last week but looked a little more fluent going forward. I would expect Villa to improve going forward with their attacking players having had another week to gel but I don’t really see where improvement is necessarily going to come from defensively.
I had an inkling that there would be plenty of goals around in the Premier League last weekend with it being the first time the players had played in front of full stadiums for near enough 18 months and while a bit of that novelty will have worn off, the grounds hosting matches here will still be full for the first time in a while so the home fans in particularly will be at fever pitch for excitement. That sort of thing translates onto the pitch so I expect an entertaining game between two sides whose matches combined for 11 goals last week. They can find at least three between them here.
