Premier League 2021-22 – Saturday 23rd October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend continues on Saturday afternoon when another six matches take place up and down the country on a day where we might see a couple of the title contenders show their credentials.

This is a normal Saturday in that there are three kick off times and two matches live on the TV for us in the UK to enjoy. The usual ways to keep up to date with the other four remain in place and I’m sure everyone knows what they are by now.

Early Kick Off

The day begins with a clash between the side at the top of the table in Chelsea and the bottom of it in Norwich City in the early kick off at Stamford Bridge. With Liverpool not playing until Sunday, Chelsea have the chance to go five points clear at the top for a few hours with a win, while Norwich will be heading to the capital looking to get off the mark for the season in terms of wins, having failed to win any of their last eight matches.

3pm Matches

There are only four matches in the traditional 3pm slot on Saturday afternoon. Everton are the highest ranked side on show in these games. They will entertain a Watford side who will head to Goodison Park looking for a much improved display and result to the one they picked up against the Toffees’ Merseyside rivals Liverpool last week. The other match of significant interest comes at Selhurst Park where the Newcastle United era post-Steve Bruce begins when Graeme Jones takes charge of the Toon in their away game at Crystal Palace.

Two other matches take place in this slot and they could both have an impact on events at the bottom of the table as Leeds United, who begin the day one place above the relegation zone, welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Elland Road. The other side in the relegation mire are Burnley and they face a huge looking clash away to Southampton. The Clarets are yet to win a match this season and will be hoping that ends against a Saints side who are after a second victory in succession after beating Leeds United last week.

Late Game

It might well be that the best game on Saturday has been saved until last as the champions Manchester City are in action. They will go down to Sussex to take on a Brighton and Hove Albion side who play a similar game to City in terms of keeping possession and showing patience to open sides up. That makes it interesting to see if the two sides cancel each other out but should Chelsea have slipped up earlier in the day Manchester City could go top of the table here. Brighton start the day in fourth so they won’t be pushovers.

Betting

There isn’t really a lot which stands out over the course of the afternoon but one certainly does and that comes in the form of the match between Crystal Palace and Newcastle United down at Selhurst Park in a game where I’m expecting to see some goals. I think we saw enough on Monday night to suggest that the transformation that Palace are undergoing under Patrick Vieira is certainly working and I expect his side to be good enough to score some goals here, especially with Wilfried Zaha expected to be back.

I’m near enough certain Newcastle are going to have a real go here. Graeme Jones is a Toon fan and a passionate one at that and I’m pretty sure he’ll want to entertain fans. He has two matches to prove himself in the job and I don’t expect his side to sit back here. I think they’ll go for it and play on the front foot. He isn’t a coach who excels in the defensive side of the game but he can certainly organise attacking plans and get at sides. I think that all combines for more than 2.5 goals in this one.
