Premier League 2021-22 – Sunday 19th December Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The truncated Premier League weekend concludes on Sunday afternoon when three of the four scheduled matches take place up and down the country on a day where the trio at the top of the table play their final game before Christmas.

Two of the three matches form the Super Sunday schedule and that programme is likely to have regular updates on the other match so there is no need to miss out on anything if you have a bet on the games.

Newcastle United vs Manchester City (14.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The opening match of the two on TV on Sunday comes from St James’ Park where we have a bottom against top clash as Newcastle United go in search of valuable points against a Manchester City outfit who will be looking to extend their lead.

The Magpies are probably already looking towards reinforcing in January and if they can pick up anything from this match you would imagine would be a bonus. Not only do they take on Manchester City immediately after they have just won 7-0 but they do it off the back of two less days to recover and go again. This will surely be a City win here but as I mentioned the other night, in these hectic periods Pep tends to rotate his players quite a bit which is likely to mean we don’t see the likes of Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne. That might keep the score down a bit but at the same time this Newcastle defence is terrible. A huge City win wouldn’t surprise me neither would a low scoring one given the schedule. I’m happy to leave this one alone.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Chelsea (14.00)

The one match on the day which doesn’t appear in front of the TV cameras comes from Molineux as Wolverhampton Wanderers will look to be the latest team to cause a stuttering Chelsea outfit a few problems.

Chelsea head to the midlands having won just two of their last five matches and were held by a youthful Everton side on Thursday evening. Wolves won away to Brighton in midweek and will have Raul Jimenez back for this one but they don’t score enough goals for my liking and as hard as they are to score against I’ve got to think that at some point Chelsea will create enough to find the back of the net. If pushed I’d back a narrow Chelsea win here but I’m not as confident about it as I’d like to be so I’ll sit this one out as well.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool (16.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The big match of the day in terms of stature of the two sides involved comes from London where Tottenham Hotspur play host to Liverpool in a match the Reds are likely to have to win to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the table.

This will be the first time Tottenham have taken to the pitch for a couple of weeks after all their Covid-19 issues and we don’t truly know for sure that they have fully recovered from them which makes life difficult for us punters. What we do know is that with Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho late exclusions from the win over Newcastle on Thursday night, they won’t be featuring for Liverpool here. That makes me think we are going to have goals on the menu. Antonio Conte will tighten Tottenham up in time but he’ll do well to do it with the personnel he has available and this Liverpool attack can feast on that but without van Dijk the likes of Harry Kane and Son-Heung Min should be dangerous too. I like over 3 goals in this encounter.
