Premier League 2022-23 – Saturday 13th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The second weekend in the Premier League season begins on Saturday when as many as seven matches take place up and down the country as teams continue to spark the new campaign into life.

As always on a Saturday there are two matches live on the TV for us to enjoy and then there are the many usual ways of keeping up to date with the other games on what is going to be a scorching hot day for the players to endure.

Early Kick Off

We open the action with a bit of a random selection for week two of the season as two teams who opened up their campaign in disappointing style last week meet at Villa Park when Aston Villa play in front of their fans for the first time this term when they welcome Everton to the second city. These two have famous managers who are yet to achieve the levels as a coach that they did as a player and a second loss for eithers will see the noise around them increasing.

3pm Matches

We have five matches in the usual 3pm slot on Saturday and there is a rare outing in it for the champions Manchester City. They play their first home match of the season against AFC Bournemouth in a match which sees the title favourites hosting the favourites for relegation. The other match of note at 3pm comes from the Emirates Stadium where Arsenal look to build on their opening win when they host Leicester City who will be aiming to bounce back from surrendering a 2-0 lead last week.

The other three matches all look competitive offerings. Fulham shocked title chasing Liverpool last week when they held them to a 2-2 draw and they head to Molineux to take on a Wolves team who look in a bit of disarray as a club right now. Two sides who started the season with a win last week meet at the Amex Stadium where Brighton and Hove Albion take on Newcastle United while the other match sees Southampton welcoming Leeds United to St Mary’s Stadium.

Late Game

The late game this week has plenty of attention on it as Erik Ten Hag looks to win for the first time as Manchester United manager when he takes his charges to the capital to take on Brentford. There is no dressing up that United looked terrible last weekend and if there isn’t a substantial improvement you worry for their chances away to a Brentford team who came from 2-0 down to get a point at Leicester last week and who now have home advantage for the first time to enjoy and hopefully make the most of.

Betting

Southampton and Leeds United looked an absolute mess defensively last week with the former going down heavily to Tottenham Hotspur which would have been worse than the 4-1 deficit they lost by had it not been for their goalkeeper, while Leeds needed their stopper to come to the party to get them over the line in a 2-1 victory. I’m not that keen to take overs in matches during this UK heatwave but the fact that these two looking all at sea defensively is nothing new makes me think over 2.75 goals can land here.

There will be a bit of improvement for the run in both these teams defensively but the biggest issue for both is that the personnel isn’t good enough for this level rather than anything structural. We know Leeds will play with an intensity even in this heat while Southampton are well used to stopping for drinks breaks so neither of these teams should be too far out of their comfort zone here. Even in scorching conditions I expect the attackers to deliver the goods on the overs based on the defending of these two last week and much of last season.
