A pretty hectic week of action in the Premier League continues on Saturday afternoon when as many as eight matches take place on a day where most of the leading contenders for the title this term will showcase their credentials.
There might be more matches on the Saturday card here but we still only have the two of them that are live on TV for us in the UK to enjoy. It just means that the usual methods that keep us up to date with the other games will have more fixtures to cover.
Early Kick Off
We begin at Goodison Park on Saturday when Merseyside rivals Everton and Liverpool clash in the first Merseyside derby of the season. Everton are still to win this term and would love nothing more than for that first victory to come against their arch-rivals from across Stanley Park. Liverpool have finally clicked into gear winning their last two matches and will be out to continue their domination of this derby under Jurgen Klopp. It should be a feisty opening to the action for the day.
3pm Matches
Six fixtures take place in the traditional 3pm slot on Saturday afternoon with Tottenham Hotspur the highest ranked side on show in them. They begin the day in third place in the table and will be looking to move second for a few hours at least when they entertain fellow London outfit Fulham. Leeds United are the next highest ranked team in action. They also have a date in London as they travel to a Brentford side where they secured their survival last term. Chelsea have had a bumpy start to the season and they will be looking to get it back on track when they host West Ham in another feisty encounter.
Newcastle United have pushed Manchester City and Liverpool to the limit this season already and they will be looking to get the better of a Crystal Palace side who themselves have gone well in the matches more accustomed to them this term. The other two matches sees two promoted teams meeting at the City Ground when Nottingham Forest host AFC Bournemouth while Southampton will look to build on a fairly decent start to the season when they travel to Molineux to take on a winless Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Late Game
The action concludes at Villa Park on Saturday evening where Steven Gerrard takes his under pressure Aston Villa side into battle against the champions Manchester City, a side who are already looking ridiculously good and arguably even better than ever before with Erling Haaland producing the goods for them at the top end of the pitch. When Villa shelled out over £100 million in the summer they would have been looking for a much better return than four defeats in their opening five matches on their investment. A sixth will have the Gerrard hot seat turning into volcanic temperatures.
Betting
I’m a little surprised that we can get a goal line that is only 3 in the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham when you consider the attacking output of both sides. There aren’t many better teams in the league on their own patch than Tottenham but there is still a fragility to them defensively and it might be that Fulham are the team to exploit that with the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic and a pretty decent support cast.
Fulham have already scored twice against Liverpool this season and notched against Arsenal last weekend as well so they don’t have any fear against the big clubs. They are not the best defensively though and this Tottenham attack should swamp it. Fulham have shown they are going to have a go this season and aren’t scared of pressing high and facing the consequences and the outcome of that should lead to more than three goals in this one.
