Premier League 2022-23 – Sunday 21st May Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend continues on Sunday when the champions Manchester City are in action for the first time since their successful title defence was confirmed but where attention might be at the bottom end of the table.

We have three matches in total on Sunday with two of them live on the TV for us in the UK to enjoy and given that the other is a feature game in the race for Europe there should be regular updates on it within the coverage.

West Ham United vs Leeds United (13.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The first of the three matches to kick off on Sunday does so at the London Stadium where West Ham United will be celebrating reaching the final of the Europa Conference League when they host Leeds United who have nothing to celebrate at the minute.

Leeds go into the match in the bottom three in the Premier League table and only a win will keep their destiny in their own hands in terms of survival heading into the final round of matches. West Ham have pulled away from danger and they are now safe so they can just enjoy their final home outing of the campaign and tick over until that European final comes along in a couple of weeks. I think the must-win nature of this match for Leeds favours goals in this game. West Ham are likely to make changes so I wouldn’t rule out a Leeds win but the Hammers have enough depth going forward that they can still trouble a Leeds defence which I wouldn’t trust for anything in the world. Leeds did offer up better attacking play against Newcastle last week but in a good position still kept shooting themselves in the foot. That seems to be engrained into this team. West Ham have nothing to lose so they can have a clinical edge to them and I expect to see over 2.5 goals in this one.

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Southampton (14.00)

The match which is away from the TV cameras on Sunday comes from the Amex Stadium where Brighton and Hove Albion will look to go closer to securing a spot in the Europa League next term when they host a Southampton side who are already relegated.

Brighton will be reeling from being torn apart by Newcastle on Thursday night and haven’t had much in terms of recovery time ahead of this match, especially when you consider the length of the journey they will have had to embark on after that game. That might give Southampton a sniff in this match, particularly when you consider they can free up and play with no competitive pressure on their shoulders. That said, Roberto de Zerbi is managing his squad well and might be stronger in personnel for this one rather than at St James’ Park the other night. When Brighton went to Southampton at the end of 2022 they delivered one of the most dominant Premier League performances I’ve ever seen and if they fancy the job they could run out comfortable winners but the odds and lines all reflect that so I’ll leave this one alone.

Manchester City vs Chelsea (16.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The final match to kick off on Sunday comes from the Etihad Stadium where the new champions Manchester City will be in action when they welcome former player Frank Lampard and his Chelsea team.

Chelsea have had a dreadful season and if they are not careful this match could easily get away from them which wouldn’t exactly be much of a confidence boost when you consider they are back in this part of the world in midweek to take on Manchester United. City can relax and enjoy the first of two home title parties here but this is Pep Guardiola in charge and he won’t want to see any huge let up from his players. The big question is how strong City will be with a couple of cup finals on the horizon. I suspect they won’t be completely at full strength but second guessing Pep isn’t particularly easy. I would expect Man City to win but I would rather not bet until we see the team news.
