A big midweek of Premier League action gets underway on Tuesday evening when three fixtures take place on a night where we could see the picture at the bottom of the table become a little clearer as teams look to bolster their survival chances.
Three of the bottom six are in action on a night which could very quickly becoming compelling. With that in mind it is no bad thing that all three matches will be live on TV for us in the UK to watch and enjoy.
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Crystal Palace (19.30 – BT Sport 3)
The first match to kick off this week comes from Molineux where Wolverhampton Wanderers will look to put a little more distance between themselves and the bottom three when they welcome a pretty much now safe Crystal Palace side to town.
Palace have picked up 10 points out of 12 since Roy Hodgson took charge and are very much taking advantage of the softer schedule many expected them to exploit regardless of whether it was the veteran or Patrick Vieira in the dugout. Wolves are a bit of an enigma at the minute. Just when you think they are going to cruise to safety and having a quiet May they throw in a shocking performance which makes you doubt them again. With Palace now safe but not exactly free flowing when it comes to scoring goals, and Wolves impossible to second guess this one is an easy match to swerve.
Aston Villa vs Fulham (19.45 – BT Sport 2)
The second match to begin on Tuesday evening comes from Villa Park where a surging Aston Villa side play host to a Fulham team who have understandably petered out a little in the last few weeks, but who could revive a European quest with a win.
This match will highlight just how far Villa have come under Unai Emery. The reverse meeting between these two was the last match under Steven Gerrard when there was absolutely nothing left in a desperate Villans outfit but now they are a vibrant, entertaining, energetic side who can trouble anyone in the division. Such has been the turnaround under the Spaniard that Villa will move into the top five with a win here and suddenly be dreaming of Champions League football let alone just a path into Europe. Villa have won seven of their last nine which includes a win over Newcastle and are looking a serious proposition. Fulham have won their last two although they have come against desperately poor opposition in the form of Everton and Leeds United. The bet I like here is the even money on Ollie Watkins to have more than 1.5 shots on target. One of the reasons for the turnaround in fortunes for Villa has been the form of the striker and he has covered this line in the last three matches at Villa Park. He also covered it in the reverse meeting between the two teams at Craven Cottage when Villa offered nothing in a clear message that they had downed tools under Gerrard. He’s much more confident now, as are Villa, and I expect him to test the Fulham goal throughout this one.

Leeds United vs Leicester City (20.00 – BT Sport 1)
The last of the three matches to kick off on Tuesday evening is probably the biggest of the three as the two teams immediately above the relegation zone meet at Elland Road when Leeds United play host to Leicester City.
These two sides are heavily involved in the relegation picture but a win for either will give them a bit of room to breathe which makes this a huge game. Of the two you would say Leicester look the more likely to get themselves out of trouble, particularly because the Leeds defence looks to have gone AWOL. They have shipped 13 goals in their last three outings and don’t really have the cover to bring in and tighten up. You sense Leeds will have to fight fire with fire and that should only play into the hands of Leicester, who had a confidence boosting win over Wolves at the weekend and who should be able to exploit this Leeds backline at will.
It isn’t just the defence which is an issue for Leeds at present. Seemingly everything their keeper touches goes back into the danger zone which is never good. That makes me think that the 11/8 on over 1.5 Leicester goals is a good bet here. Leeds have conceded two or more in six of their last seven matches with Nottingham Forest the only side not to find a second in that run and they hardly ever score on the road. Dean Smith is expecting to have James Maddison and Harvey Barnes back and the latter very much interests me when it comes to finding the back of the net. He has six goals in seven meetings against Leeds and that is no surprise because the Leeds right side defensively has been a mess for way too long. If he starts, the 3/1 on Barnes scoring is too big.
