Premier League 2023-24 – Sunday 27th August Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend concludes on Sunday afternoon when the final three matches in the round take place on an afternoon where two of the three title favourites get the chance to showcase their credentials again.

Two of the three matches are live on the TV for us in the UK to enjoy throughout the course of what looks like being a rainy afternoon and there will be regular updates on the other game during the coverage too.

Sheffield United vs Manchester City (14.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The opening match of the two on TV on Sunday comes from Bramall Lane where one of the favourites for relegation, Sheffield United, host the champions Manchester City in a repeat of the FA Cup semi-final from last season.

Sheffield United have played two and lost them both so far this season and are heavy favourites to lose for a third time but they will be looking to be as competitive as possible. The Blades will know their season will not be determined in matches like this one so they have a free go at the champions here. Manchester City have picked up where they left off last season with two very comfortable wins in the Premier League and victory in the UEFA Super Cup in between and they will be expected to win this with plenty in hand. They won that semi-final at Wembley last season 3-0 and I suspect that is sort of the range where this one will end once City have seen off a blood and thunder opening 20 minutes. The injuries are beginning to mount up for the visitors though which puts me off getting too involved in this one.

Burnley vs Aston Villa (14.00)

The one match away from the TV cameras in the UK on Sunday comes from Turf Moor where Burnley will play their second match back in the Premier League when they host Aston Villa who will be buoyed by their emphatic win in Europe in midweek.

Villa will know they were not up to the standards that they would expect of themselves in their only previous away match in the Premier League this term and will be looking to be much more on it in this game. Burnley were brushed aside by Manchester City in the only game they have played this season but they won’t be the only team to suffer that fate this season. This is a match they will feel they can be a lot more competitive in and probably need to be for their own belief as much as anything. I like Villa this season but the odds do feel about right to me in this one so I’m happy to leave this one alone as well.

Newcastle United vs Liverpool (16.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The final match of the weekend comes from St James’ Park where Newcastle United look to replicate their huge win over Aston Villa in their only other home match this term when they host a Liverpool side who have started the season unbeaten.

This is one of the great historical fixtures in the Premier League with matches between the two littered with goals and wonderful football and although it is going on for 25 years since those halcyon days between the two I do fancy we are going to see something resembling those encounters here. Newcastle were absolutely rampant in their last home match and while Liverpool are unbeaten this season they could easily have lost at Chelsea and could have been 2-0 down in five minutes at home to Bournemouth last time out. I’d wager this Newcastle attack outweighs both of those. Liverpool have offered plenty going forward though and there is probably more to come in that department as well with their new signings bedding in. Newcastle have been exposed a bit defensively this season so I’m expecting a bit of an end-to-end game where the goals flow here.
