Premier League 2023-24 – Tottenham vs Man City Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The race for the Premier League title is back in the spotlight on Tuesday evening when Manchester City look to keep the defence of their crown in their own hands when they head to the capital to take on Tottenham Hotspur.

City need to win to keep their destiny in their own hands but this isn’t all about them because Tottenham also have to win if they are to keep their hopes of reaching the Champions League a possibility going into the final day of the season.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League channels with the build-up beginning at 7pm ahead of the kick off at 8pm.

Tottenham Hotspur

This has been a season which has been much improved for Tottenham Hotspur under Ange Postecoglou and whether they make the Champions League next term or not there is plenty of reason for optimism under the Australian moving forward, however they were right in the race for the title in the opening half of the season so they have faded away the longer it has gone on, with them, like most sides, suffering from some key injuries which have caught them out.

Spurs snapped a run of four successive defeats at the weekend when they managed to get the better of Burnley late on but there was little that was convincing about that effort. One issue they have had in recent times is they continually concede the first goal and are then left having to take risks to get back into the game. Moving forward under Ange, they will be looking to have much more control in the early passages of play so that their attacking football counts more in winning games rather than chasing them.

Manchester City

The early stages of this season Manchester City looked to show a vulnerability but there was always a thought that when they came back from the Club World Cup they were going to click into gear and that is exactly what has happened. Since the turn of the year they have resembled the side we have come to expect under Pep Guardiola and although they suffered a setback in the Champions League, they know if they win their next three matches they will complete another domestic double.

City head to the capital unbeaten in their last 21 matches in the Premier League, during which time they have dropped just eight points, and are powering their way home. They are in a position where they will be in complete control of their destiny should they win this one. City are in rampant goalscoring form at the minute as well. In six of their last seven matches they have scored at least four goals so they are in supreme form.

Team News

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Richarlison and Yves Bissouma have played their last football of the season so Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be a feature in the heart of the midfield. The Australian can’t rotate as much as he would like with his side playing for a top four spot.

Pep Guardiola has a fitness concern over Nathan Ake who picked up a foot injury during the win at Fulham at the weekend but he is expected to be available. Jack Grealish has recovered from illness and is in line to return.

Betting

We are going to hear so much during the coverage of this game how Tottenham supporters don’t want their team to win but that won’t be of any interest to their players. They will all want to play in the Champions League next term so I expect them to be going right at it in this match. The problem they have is they have a seemingly unstoppable juggernaut in front of them and ultimately I expect City to be too strong for them.

We’re not going to get too rich backing them at 2/5 to win the game though so it might be that the much bigger price on over 3.5 goals is the way to play this one. City have covered this line on their own in six of their last seven matches but there is enough pace in this Spurs outfit to trouble the City defence. We’ve seen all season that Ange isn’t going to change how Tottenham approach matches and Pep certainly isn’t so after a reverse meeting which finished 3-3 I think goals are going to flow once again here.
