Premier League 2024-25 – Wednesday 2nd April Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The midweek action in the Premier League continues on Wednesday evening when another six matches take place with the title race, the battle for European football and the fight to avoid the drop all in the spotlight.

As with Tuesday, once again we have an annoying night where there is only one match of the six on TV in the UK for us to enjoy but you would hope there are regular updates from all of the others so we can stay on top of everything.

Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (19.45 unless stated; UK TV in brackets)

AFC Bournemouth vs Ipswich Town

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Aston Villa

Manchester City vs Leicester City

Newcastle United vs Brentford

Southampton vs Crystal Palace

Liverpool vs Everton (20.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

Preview

All eyes will be on Anfield on Wednesday night when the second Merseyside Derby of the season and one where Liverpool will be looking to get back on track after a bit of a wobble leading into the international break. The Reds watched on as Arsenal closed the gap behind them to nine points and this is their chance to reply against an Everton side who are perfectly safe and can give this a right good go. Manchester City are the next highest team in action on Wednesday and they can move into the top four for 24 hours at least when they host a dismal Leicester City side.

Four other teams who are firmly in the hunt for Champions League football next season are on show on Wednesday night and two of them face each other at the Amex Stadium when Brighton and Hove Albion take on Aston Villa with the losers leaving themselves with a bit to do in that race. Newcastle United have European football secured for next season and they host Brentford while Bournemouth will look to kick on after exiting the FA Cup at the weekend when they host relegation threatened Ipswich Town. Rock bottom Southampton welcome Crystal Palace to St Mary’s Stadium in the other game.

Betting

Southampton have lost 11 of their last 12 matches in the Premier League and I expect them to lose to Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening but I’m not a massive fan of taking really short prices about away sides in English football so I’m looking to bump up that price a little and backing over 1.5 goals on top seems like a good way of doing things. The last 10 of those 11 Saints defeats have seen them concede two or more and if that trend continues we won’t even need them to score to help the process.

Palace head to Hampshire having won their last six away games in all competitions and are really motoring now under Oliver Glasner and there are no signs of them sliding off from their form, and with a Wembley trip on the horizon you would imagine they will keep on improving. Southampton look a side who are waiting for their fate to be sealed. Defensively they are a mess and the likes of Ebere Eze could have a field day here. Those who want to go a goal higher shouldn’t be put off but after a night of banging my head against the wall on Tuesday I’ll play safe here.
