The last weekend before the final international break of 2016 sees a split round of Premier League matches. There are five matches on Saturday with the fireworks likely to begin much earlier than those sparking off around the country on the same evening.
Only half the league may be in action but we have the leaders and one of the chasing pack as well as the bottom side on what could be another defining day at both ends of the table. We don’t have an early match so we’re down to just two kick off times for the day.
3pm Matches
Four matches kick off at the usual time with Bournemouth taking on Sunderland at the Vitality Stadium, Man City hosting Middlesbrough at the Etihad, West Ham go up against Stoke at the London Stadium and Burnley take on Crystal Palace at Turf Moor.
Late Game
The action concludes for the day at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea, who could go top of the league if Man City fail to win earlier in the day, host an Everton side who will be looking to enhance their own position both in the table and in the pecking order in the top flight. This looks to be the most attractive match of the day, on paper at least.
Betting
There might only be five matches on the card on Saturday but I like bets in three of them and although the trend of home wins isn’t as high as it usually is this season I’m going with three home sides here.
The first of those is Bournemouth. Sunderland are in a right old mess at the minute and although they are saying the right things and talking everything up it is clear to see the shambles they are and with John O’Shea out their defence could be ripped to shreds by Callum Wilson and co here. Bournemouth have picked up 10 points from 12 at home since their defeat to Manchester United on the opening weekend of the season and conceded only one goal in that time. I fancy they’ll overcome Sunderland here.
We might be ten games into the campaign but it is already clear to see that this Burnley side is much better than the one that was in the Premier League a couple of seasons ago and they are incredibly tough to beat at home. Given that Palace have hit the skids again I’m amazed that Burnley are such outsiders in this one. I think on the Asian lines they are a fantastic bet. Since the opening day the only side to have gone to Turf Moor and won were Arsenal and there was all sorts of controversy about that. I’m with the hosts with the start here.
Finally in the late game I can’t oppose Chelsea right now. They were my tip to win the title before a ball was kicked this season and they firmly remain that and I fancy we might see why on Saturday evening. Chelsea have won their last four matches and haven’t conceded in those games which spells trouble for Everton. The Toffees ended a slump of their own with a win over West Ham last week but this Chelsea side are three or four levels above the Hammers right now and with Chelsea’s defence watertight and Costa on fire at the other end I can’t go against them. Idrissa Gueye is a huge loss for Everton and so I’m on the home side here too.
