World Series of Darts Finals – Round 1 Betting Preview

The first day of the World Series of Darts Finals sees two rounds of the tournament being played as the first and second rounds take place across an afternoon and an evening session in Glasgow on Saturday.

Due to time restrictions we won’t be able to preview the second round of matches but we can certainly have a bash at the first one. For those looking for bets in the evening keep an eye on our twitter feed – @kevshatsports and if anything pops up we’ll advise on that platform.

First four matches

The tournament begins with the all-European battle between Max Hopp and Cristo Reyes with the winner to face Adrian Lewis in the evening session. Benito van de Pas and Michael Smith meet in the second match with James Wade awaiting the winner. Match three is without doubt the match of the round when Jelle Klaasen meets Kim Huybrechts for the right to face Dave Chisnall and Brendan Dolan faces Simon Whitlock with Raymond Barneveld the reward for the winner of that.

Last four matches

Mensur Suljovic begins his quest to go one better than last week when he faces Robert Thornton. The winner will face Phil Taylor. Two Joe’s meet as Murnan faces Cullen for the right to play Gary Anderson before Gerwyn Price and Steve Beaton face off to see who will take on Michael van Gerwen in the second round. The afternoon concludes with Daryl Gurney playing Josh Payne with Peter Wright getting the winner.

Betting

I’m not a huge fan of these televised best of 11 leg matches. I think a TV tournament should be played over longer so I’m not going to go too mad until Sunday especially in a tournament of which the meaning of it is highly questionable.

The only bet I like in the afternoon session comes in the form of Michael Smith. He has been in the doldrums for a while now but there were signs of life from him against Stephen Bunting last weekend and a repeat of that will have him highly competitive in this one.

Benito van de Pas won a tournament on the floor a couple of weeks ago but he continues to blow hot and cold on the TV as we saw last week when he lost to Max Hopp in a match of plenty of missed doubles. Smith has a decent record against the Dutchman and he might just be breaking out of his slumber at the right time to extend that.

Tips

Back M.Smith to beat B.van de Pas for a 4/10 stake at 2.10 with Ladbrokes
