The last day of Premier League action before the international break sees four more matches being played including the entirety of last season’s top four all in action on a busy Sunday afternoon.
We have three TV matches across three different kick off times so this is a bumper day of football in what is an excellent day of sport. We’ll preview the matches in time order.
Man Utd vs Stoke
It will be interesting to see if Man Utd can fare any better in this match than they did after their last Europa League game when they lost to Watford immediately after a Thursday night game. If they are to you would think they have an ideal opponent here with Stoke bottom of the league, without a win all season and without a win at Old Trafford in many a year.
I have to say that Thursday-Sunday Europa League hangover thing is a real turn off for me in this match and while I expect United to win there just isn’t enough value for me to get involved.
Leicester vs Southampton
Much the same applies here too. For once the champions aren’t in front of the Sky cameras which is a shame because this looks like it has the makings of an open game between two sides who like to score goals.
Were Southampton not involved in the Europa League and were it not in Israel on Thursday night I might have looked to get involved in this one but the one thing I hate more than anything is guessing the energy levels of a side. I’m not going to do that so I’ll sit this out too.
Tottenham vs Man City
This is very much the match of the day and it should be a cracking match to watch around all the other top class sport that is on show on Sunday. Man City are perfect in the Premier League this season while Tottenham were their closest challengers heading into the weekend.
I don’t think City will have this all their own way but I would have wanted a bigger price on Tottenham to get involved in them without Harry Kane. I don’t really want to take either on and the goal lines look about right so I’ll sit this one out too.
Burnley vs Arsenal
The day ends with the have nots against the haves as Burnley host Arsenal. I mentioned plenty about Burnley’s home record in the Monday Night Football preview and I’m not going to cover old ground but that record does make me think this won’t be the high scoring match that recent Arsenal games have been.
I would expect Arsenal to win the match if they are prepared to battle and earn their win but if they are not they could easily succumb to a set piece or something and be unstuck like Liverpool were on this ground earlier in the season.
I expect Burnley to set up tight and compact and force Arsenal to play down the flanks where they are less dangerous and with no Andre Gray up front the Arsenal back line should be able to contain Burnley’s attacking threat so under 2.75 goals looks the way forward for me here.
