There are just six group matches left in this year’s Ram Slam T20 Challenge and the first of those comes on Wednesday as the Warriors enter the last chance saloon when they take on the Cape Cobras in East London.
Sunday’s win for the Cobras all but guaranteed their place in the semi-final next week but mathematically they still need another win just to make completely sure. They still have a match with the Dolphins on Friday but would like to guarantee it here.
The Warriors have had a campaign of struggle so far and have just two wins to their name in the competition but they have played fewer matches than anyone else. They have three matches in five days so if they can find some momentum they might still make it through.
The defending champions are just starting to work up a head of steam in defence of their title but if they are to come through this they will need to do so without their powerful opener Richard Levi who has been ruled out after taking a blow to the head on Sunday. Wayne Parnell has been confirmed as the man to open in his absence.
The Warriors are winless in their last three matches and their batting has been their issue. I guess that is no surprise because Colin Ingram aside there isn’t a household name in their side and ultimately it is that which has let them down in this tournament.
I’d be surprised if the Cobras don’t win this match but 8/13 isn’t for me in this format of the game especially at somewhere like East London where conditions can sometimes be tricky.
For me the best bet in the match is on the Cobras to hit the most sixes. The Warriors don’t hit many sixes as a general rule but can serve up some dross with the ball so this looks like a natural chance for the Cobras, with the likes of Parnell, Kleinveldt, Ontong and Kemp among others in their side, to get the most sixes here.
