Rothesay International Tennis 2023 – Day 3 Tips and Betting Preview

The second round of the Rothesay International forms the schedule on the third day of action in Eastbourne on Wednesday when all eight matches are played out across the busiest order of play we have seen so far this week.

This is the round where the top four seeds enter the tournament so we get to see the more established names for the first time along with those who have already progressed through the first round.

Centre Court

There are just the two men’s matches on Centre Court and as they have done all week they bookend the action. We begin with Taylor Fritz getting his title defence underway when he takes on his fellow American player Mackenzie McDonald for a quarter final spot. Once two women’s matches have been played out on this court we conclude with the second seed Tommy Paul entering the tournament. His second round opponent is Sebastian Baez.

Court 1

There are only two matches on the second court on Wednesday in the men’s draw but we have to wait for a women’s match to be completed before the first of those comes along. When it does it sees the sole remaining British player left in the competition on show when Liam Broady goes up against the Swedish player Mikael Ymer. The other men’s match follows that one straight away and sees the beaten finalist of a year ago on show when Maxime Cressy takes on a Zhizhen Zhang who took care of the number seven seed Lorenzo Sonego on Tuesday.

Outside Courts

The other four matches all take place on the outside courts with the first of them beginning at the start of play on Court 2 when Gregoire Barrere host the fifth seed Nicolas Jarry who enters the tournament at this stage. After a women’s match the fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo gets his competition up and running when he takes on the Swiss qualifier Marc-Andrea Huesler. The final two matches will be played out on Court 5 where the schedule begins with a clash between Miomir Kecmanovic and Aleksandar Vukic and then when a doubles match has played out J.J. Wolf will meet Luca Van Assche.

Betting

Maxime Cressy said after his first round win that he loved it at Eastbourne but he might not enjoy it as much on Wednesday as I think he could be ripe for the taking for a Zhizhen Zhang who looked quite good in beating Lorenzo Sonego in the opening round on Tuesday. The Cressy win over a limited Daniel Elahi Galan was his first at this level since February and if we are being honest there wasn’t much that was convincing about it.

One of the reasons why Cressy has had such a poor run is an insane number of double faults which have crept into his game and with the wind expected to be gusty again on Wednesday his original delivery could easily be affected. Zhang saw off a fairly decent performance from Sonego on Tuesday, with 28 winners against a player who only made nine unforced errors in defeat. I think the form of that win looks better than how Cressy played and at the prices the Chinese player could be the value in a match between two men with just one world ranking spot between them.

Tips

Back Z.Zhang to beat M.Cressy for a 3/10 stake at 2.75 with William Hill
