Rugby League World Cup 2021 – Saturday 29th October Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Rugby League World Cup continues on Saturday with a triple header of action which will see two groups move closer to their conclusion as we continue to finalise the quarter final line up in the men’s competition.

We have a match from Group A and both the final games in Group B to entertain us over the course of a day where we will see two, if not three, teams who will fancy their chances of winning this tournament on show.

England vs Greece (14.30 – BBC One)

Venue: Bramall Lane

The opening match of what is a busy day of action in the World Cup sees England looking to confirm their place in the last eight as Group A winners when they entertain a Greece side who will exit the tournament after this clash at Bramall Lane.

Greece have certainly brought something to the tournament and you kind of hope that they go out on their sword and have a bit of a go to this patched up England side with Shaun Wane resting a few ahead of a quarter final next week. This is a mismatch though and that is highlighted by bookmakers giving Greece a 64 run start even though England are resting some key men. I would still expect England to have enough in them to cover this line but it might be that when the job is done they take their foot off the gas and save themselves for next week which could go against it. This is a pretty easy one to leave alone.

Fiji vs Scotland (17.00 – BBC Two)

Venue: Kingston Park

The second match of the day is the penultimate game to be played out in Group B where Fiji will be expected to confirm their spot in a quarter final against New Zealand when they take on Scotland at Kingston Park in Newcastle.

I think it is fair to say that Scotland have been the biggest disappointment of this tournament so far and there is every chance they are going to bow out of it without really having made any kind of impression on the event. They have one last chance to show what they can do and look to get stuck into a Fiji side who just look so much better in all departments. You get the impression that Scotland’s intensity went when they were humbled by Italy and I don’t expect much from them here. Fiji are only giving up 40 points in this match and I think that is well within their compass even if they do ease up a touch in the final quarter of the match. This is a Fijian side with plenty of power through the middle and some insane skills in the backs. They should look to get on the front foot early and the longer this goes the more I expect Fiji to roll the Scots over.

Australia vs Italy (19.30 – BBC iPlayer)

Venue: Totally Wicked Stadium

The final match of the triple header of World Cup action on Saturday comes from the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens where the defending world champions will compete at the home of the Super League champions when Australia take on Italy.

Australia are already through to the quarter finals and a win here will guarantee they win the group and potentially face Lebanon next week. Even without a win they have still done enough to top the group you would think. As with the other two matches Australia have played in this tournament this one is all about how many they win by. They are giving up a huge 72 points which is probably too many when you consider that Mal Meninga will rotate his stock but the competition for places in this Australia squad is so high that there might not be a let up in which case they could easily cover this line. Italy probably achieved their aim when they beat Scotland in their opening game. They had no answer to Fiji in their second one and should be overwhelmed here but I can leave huge handicaps with the potential for a late drop off given Australia are all about next week from here on in.

Tips

Back Fiji (-40) to beat Scotland for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
