SA20 2025 – Durban’s Super Giants vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape Tips and Betting Preview

There is one match in the SA20 competition on Friday and it pits the bottom two in the table against each other when the Durban’s Super Giants welcome the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape to Kingsmead.

Durban go into the match second from bottom but a bonus point win would send them to the top of the table. Sunrisers are yet to register a win and will need that to happen pretty soon if they are going to defend their title.

Durban’s Super Giants

The Durban’s Super Giants have one of everything on their ledger. They have a win, a loss and a washout and so they will be looking to dodge the weather and find a bit of consistency as they go about trying to reach the top four and set up a shot at the title. Durban could easily have been sat without a win themselves though because the one that they got they stole from the jaws of defeat. They will be looking to bounce back from a poor showing last time out though.

I still have concerns over the makeup of this Durban’s Super Giants batting unit. They have three top class openers but only top of them can open and the more openers they utilise, not only are they playing one of them out of position, but it could delay the arrival to the crease of Heinrich Klaasen which would be detrimental. The positive for the Super Giants is that there is plenty to work with regarding the bowling which should take some heat off any batting issues.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

After two seasons of near enough domination of this competition, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape have started this campaign pathetically. They have played three matches and been drubbed in all of them and even this early in the season they know they can’t rely on their net run rate so they are going to need to find not just enough wins to rectify their tournament but some bonus ones if they harbour hopes of being able to put up a successful title defence.

The big problem for the Eastern Cape has been their batting. Apart from one partnership in Paarl they have offered nothing with the bat and been out of their matches before the halfway point. We don’t really know how well their bowlers are going because in two of the three matches they haven’t even been defending a run a ball. History would tell us that unit is decent enough but it won’t matter much if they don’t put up significantly more runs than they have been doing.

Key Players

Durban’s Super Giants have an issue with exactly where to bat Quinton de Kock but he showed in the last time that he is in decent form if they can get that problem corrected. He would be better opening but wherever he bats the home side will want a positive showing.

Marco Jansen is probably the only positive for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape so far. He has delivered the goods with bat and ball and is someone that can be pleased with his performances. The champions need another good showing from him here.

Betting

This one isn’t the easiest to bet on from the point of view that the Sunrisers Eastern Cape have to be better than what they have shown so far this season but at the same time nobody knows when they are going to show that. Based on what we’ve seen in the competition so far you would have the Durban’s Super Giants as the comfortable favourites but their only win came when they were well on their way to losing so I’m not rushing to get behind them either.

The better angle in for this one could be to look at the sixes and for Durban to hit the most of them. In three completed innings so far in this competition, Sunrisers Eastern Cape have only hit nine sixes as opposed to the 14 that Durban’s Super Giants have hit in just two innings. There looks to be a distinct lack of confidence in the Sunrisers batting right now and if Durban claim a couple of early scalps the champions might go into their shell once again. Even if they don’t the Super Giants have Brandon King, Matthew Breetzke, Quinton de Kock, Wiaan Mulder and Heinrich Klaasen who can all muscle the ball over these ropes so the 5/6 on the home side hitting the most sixes looks good to me.
