SA20 2025 – Joburg Super Kings vs Durban’s Super Giants Tips and Betting Preview

The second leg of the double header in the SA20 2025 season on Saturday is the penultimate match of the league phase of the campaign as the Joburg Super Kings go up against the Durban’s Super Giants in a key game for the home side.

The Super Kings go into the match knowing that if they can avoid defeat in the game they will be through to the finals but a defeat will leave the doors open for the Pretoria Capitals. Durban are already out so their season ends here.

Joburg Super Kings

The Johannesburg Super Kings would have wanted more from their season than they have managed but the weather hasn’t always helped them and injuries certainly haven’t but we saw how good they can be when they took care of the Paarl Royals earlier in the week. That kept their destiny in their own hands and a win here will ensure that they take their place in the knockout cricket next week. Defeat isn’t the end of the road for them but it could be if the Pretoria Capitals get a bonus point win in their last game.

The Super Kings looked really good with the ball on Thursday. Paarl Royals aren’t a standout side with the bat and were hampered by injuries but at the same time Joburg got their feet on their throats early on and they never really let up. That left the run chase as a comfortable one and at no stage did they really look like they wouldn’t chase it down. That kept their unbeaten record on home soil this season intact and if that remains standing after this game then the Super Kings will be in the finals.

Durban’s Super Giants

This has been a really poor season for the Durban’s Super Giants. They were probably unfortunate to run into the majority of that band of rain that hung around midway through the tournament and that stopped them from getting any momentum but they looked like a lopsided side at the beginning of the competition and they haven’t been able to get their batting unit to look right let alone perform as one complete order that maximised the whole 20 overs.

The Super Giants only have one win on the season and that came in their opening match and they should have lost that too so they could easily be going into this final game of the campaign without a win. You would hope from their point of view that with no competitive pressure on this one that their huge hitting batters can come in and play with a freedom and show their quality. Durban have lacked something with the ball for much of the campaign which hasn’t helped their cause.

Key Players

Faf du Plessis was hitting the ball like a shell in the win over the Paarl Royals and if he can get the Joburg Super Kings off to a positive start in this match then he could soon get this Durban attack under massive pressure.

We haven’t seen anything of Heinrich Klaasen in this tournament in terms of what he can do and the fireworks he can provide but he has the perfect backdrop to go big here on a ground which isn’t big enough to contain him and a match which has no meaning for the Super Giants now.

Betting

We might have to dodge a bit of weather which doesn’t make betting on this match particularly when you consider that Durban’s Super Giants aren’t exactly bring much in the way of consistency to the party but I refuse to believe that they are not going to come out here and go on the attack with the bat, even if they fall flat on their face in doing so. They have nothing to lose and they have a batting order that is full of big hitters who should be able to strut their stuff here.

The sixes line for this one sits at 11.5 which even with the trickier pitches at The Wanderers this season I just can’t ignore. This is still a ground where the boundaries are small and the ball flies at altitude and there are six hitters in the Joburg Super Kings ranks as well as the Durban one and while Joburg need to win to officially make it through they are probably going to make it anyway so in a game not too much riding on it I’ll play over on that sixes line.
