We head to Cape Town for the second half of the SA20 2025 double header on Saturday as the tournament favourites MI Cape Town are back on show when they go up against the Joburg Super Kings at Newlands.
These two sides began the day as the top two in the table and top spot will be the reward for whichever team comes out with the win here and in a congested table, leading the way feels significant so there is plenty on this one.
MI Cape Town
MI Cape Town went into the tournament as the favourites to come out as champions despite two horrendous efforts in the first two seasons of this competition. While they have come out of the blocks better than in the past, they have still lost two of their first four matches and need to be careful that they don’t slide into a position that they don’t want to be in. A win here would move them to the top of the table, build their confidence and set them up nicely for the second half of their campaign.
It has been win, loss, win, loss for the MI Cape Town this season and if that trend is going to continue then this will be a match that they win. The good thing for Cape Town is that this is just their second home game and they won their opening one so if they can make Newlands a fortress then there are plenty more points to be had for them. They just need to make sure that someone takes responsibility with the bat because there is a lot of power but they don’t need to leave it to each other.
Joburg Super Kings
The Joburg Super Kings are the only undefeated side left in the competition and they will be looking to preserve that fine record here and taking the early dominance of the table. The Super Kings have been impacted by the weather so far with one of their three matches being washed out and the rain coming late on in another one, although that game was against MI Cape Town where they were ahead on DLS at the time the game got abandoned. They were well on track to win even if the rain hadn’t got involved though.
The big positive for the Super Kings has been their bowling. They have completed all three bowling innings in this tournament so far and they are yet to concede more than 141. Whether that is sustainable remains to be seen but if they can keep sides to those sorts of totals then they are going to win an awful lot more than they lose, especially as their batting is likely to come good once it can get in a rhythm without having stop start matches.

Key Players
Delano Potgieter has had an excellent start to the season with five wickets from his three bowling innings and he has also come in and smacked some big bombs down the order as well. MI Cape Town will be hoping for more of the same here.
Donovan Ferreira would probably have been expected to play his part in this tournament with the bat in hand but he has actually contributed more with the ball so far with his three bowling efforts yielding four wickets at an economy of 4.50.
Betting
Joburg Super Kings have been excellent with the ball in this competition so far and with the MI Cape Town having one or two issues with their batting order, especially if Rassie van der Dussen isn’t fit to take his place in the side for this one, then I think the visitors could come to Newlands and pick up a victory. When you look at this MI Cape Town side on paper it should have the potential to dominate but their inconsistency has stretched back three years and that is an issue.
I think there is more to come from the Joburg Super Kings with the bat as well. They haven’t been able to get into a rhythm with the bat because of the weather but they have a deep batting order and if their top order can come to the party then the likes of Jonny Bairstow and Donovan Ferreira could really do some damage in the middle overs. I’m not convinced by the balance of this Cape Town side and while they sort that out I’m happy to oppose them here.
