SA20 2025 – Pretoria Capitals vs Paarl Royals Tips and Betting Preview

There is a double header in the Big Bash League and the ILT20 on Saturday and the SA20 isn’t getting left behind as two matches take place in that competition too with the Pretoria Capitals taking on the Paarl Royals in the first one.

These two teams sit in the top four as we approach the halfway point of the regular season but the table is so congested that losing could do a bit of damage while the team that wins will end the match on top of the table.

Pretoria Capitals

The Pretoria Capitals haven’t been helped by the weather in this tournament so far. Two of their four matches have had the rain have the biggest say but they have a win and a loss in the other two games they have played. They won’t need me to tell them that should really have been a pair of wins because they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in their first game. To their credit, they bounced back from that disappointment to cruise past the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in their second match.

They might just have got the Sunrisers at the right time and you would have been worried for their chances of defending 139 in the derby in Johannesburg on Thursday had the rain not come between the innings and put paid to that second innings beginning. They need more from their batters, not necessarily their openers but the ones below that and that has to come because this place can quickly turn into a bowlers graveyard no matter how good their bowling is.

Paarl Royals

The Paarl Royals are one of just two teams who haven’t been impacted by the weather in this tournament and they have played a game less than the two sides below them in the table and the two immediately above them so this feels like a big game for the men in pink. To be fair to them, given that they were the rank outsiders before a ball was bowled in this competition this term, they have come out of the blocks well and a win here would set them up nicely.

The Royals have won two of their three matches with the second of those wins coming against MI Cape Town which probably won’t look a bad result at all come the end of the campaign. Their loss was to the same side in the only match of the three to date where the batting has let them down. I’m concerned about the depth of that batting and I’m not convinced their bowling is going to stand up to the strongest tests but to be fair they are going along nicely so far.

Key Players

Will Jacks has started the season like a house on fire for the Pretoria Capitals and he has a bowling unit that he could really do some damage against, especially if this is a flat SuperSport Park wicket which isn’t got any moisture in it.

When the tournament started not many outside of South Africa would have known about Lhuan-dre Pretorius but plenty are finding out about him now. He is the leading run scorer in the competition despite playing a match less than most teams.

Betting

The first game that was actually played at SuperSport Park was a low scoring one but you don’t get many of those on this ground and even then there didn’t look to be too much wrong with the pitch, we just saw another horror show of a batting effort from the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The pitch here is usually pretty decent and that was shown in the fact that we had nine sixes in that match when the first innings score was 113 so there is the potential for plenty more here.

We know all about the big hitting exploits of the Pretoria Capitals but the Paarl Royals have Lhuan-dre Pretorius and David Miller who can crack a cricket ball a million miles. You don’t need to be an explosive hitter to hit a six on this ground though with the altitude and the relatively small boundaries so a 15.5 sixes line has to be attacked here. Add in the potential for a bonus point and I expect the ball to fly to all parts in this one.
