SA20 2025 – Pretoria Capitals vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape Tips and Betting Preview

We have a double header of action in the SA20 competition on Tuesday and it begins in Centurion where two teams go in search of a first win of the campaign when the Pretoria Capitals host the Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Pretoria were beaten in a high scoring opening game that they looked to be in complete control in while the Sunrisers have had a couple of matches and lost them both so each of these teams will be very eager to get off the mark for the year.

Pretoria Capitals

The Pretoria Capitals have set their stall out to be one of the more entertaining and attacking teams in this competition in the two seasons we have had of it and based on their opening game there is no reason to think anything will be too much different this time around. They conceded 200 in their match against the Durban’s Super Giants but still looked like they were cruising to the total only to suffer a terrible last six or so overs with the bat and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The Capitals then saw their second match washed out so they are off the mark for the tournament but they will be wanting to win this one as two points from three games won’t leave them looking too pretty in the table. The key to them winning this match is to finish their batting innings off much better than they did in the first game. Their top order set the match up for them and look in good touch so it is down to those in the middle and lower order to come good.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

To say that the title defence of the Sunrisers Eastern Capie hasn’t gone to plan so far would be something of an understatement. After a year where they dominated the field last term they have played two matches this season and lost them both and they have been beaten so emphatically that even after two games it is highly unlikely they will be able to repair their run rate enough for that to help them out the longer this competition goes on.

The batting well and truly let them down in the opening match and although they batted better in the second one it wasn’t good enough. The big surprise though is that in both of the matches that they have played, the bowling has gone around the park. That isn’t like this Sunrisers attack based on what we have seen in the opening two campaigns so the champions are desperate for their bowlers to come good here. They will need to too on a ground where it doesn’t take a lot for carnage to ensue.

Key Players

Will Jacks has loved this competition throughout the history of it and he showed why in the opening match of the season for the Pretoria Capitals. He has been left out of recent England squads so he has a point to prove and has started well in that regard.

Aiden Markram showed all of his class with the bat in the previous game even though his side couldn’t put up a winning score. His bowling contributed to the downfall though and he either needs to turn up with the ball or leave it to someone else.

Betting

We are at SuperSport Park for this match which means one thing – sixes. We recently had a T20 international here between South Africa and Pakistan, the latter not exactly the biggest hitting team going around, and we saw 25 sixes in that match and the boundaries peppered throughout. Based on the way the Pretoria Capitals batted in their opening match it would be a massive surprise if that trend doesn’t continue here. We know that they are going to come out with aggression.

We also know that the ball flies further here at altitude and we also know that the Sunrisers attack can go around the park with them having conceded 18 sixes in their opening two matches. Eastern Cape have big hitters like Tristan Stubbs, Zak Crawley and Aiden Markram in their ranks though, although in truth you don’t need to be a big hitter to clear these ropes. The sixes line is 17.5 for this one and that doesn’t look high enough given that Sunrisers are already in the position whereby they need to chase bonus point wins.
