Scottish Open Snooker 2022 – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of the Scottish Open will see the final match of the held over qualifying games taking place as well as a bunch of first round matches from the main draw on a busy Tuesday inside the Meadowbank Arena in Edinburgh.

We saw most of the main protagonists make it through their qualifying matches on Monday but we did lose the defending champion Luca Brecel. Many of those who made it through are in first round action on Tuesday.

Morning Session

Kyren Wilson is actually the highest ranked player on show in the morning session. He is involved in the one last held over qualifying match and goes up against the former women’s world champion in Ng On Yee for a place in the main draw. Zhao Xintong came through his qualifying match on Monday and his reward is a morning meeting with Joe O’Connor. The other two matches in this session see Mark King taking on Ricky Walden while Zhang Anda meets Dylan Emery for a place in the last 32 of the tournament.

Afternoon Session

Judd Trump cruised through his qualifying match in terms of the score on Monday but not necessarily the actual way it played out but he is the main attraction in the afternoon session. He’ll be on the TV table when he takes on Mitchell Mann. Barry Hawkins is another leading light on show. He’ll be on the second table when he goes up against a rejuvenated Michael White. Graeme Dott is competing on home soil this week and he’ll hope that inspires a performance out of him. It will need to as he faces Joe Perry with Zhou Yuelong the other player up on show in the first part of the afternoon. He goes up against David Lilley.

Shaun Murphy is the top dog in the second part of the afternoon and after a good win on Monday he’ll be on the main TV table on Tuesday. He takes on a home player in the form of Scott Donaldson. The UK Championship finalist Ding Junhui is back in action on Tuesday afternoon too. He meets Mark Joyce on one of the other tables while Ali Carter looks to make it into the second round at the expense of Robbie Williams. There is an all-Asian battle in the other match as Noppon Saengkham meeting Hossein Vafaei.

Evening Session

Ronnie O’Sullivan is back on show in the evening session on Monday. He wrapped up his held over match in 45 minutes on Monday and will look to do a similar job on Ben Woollaston, although that won’t be anything like as easy. Mark Selby is another star name who will have to miss the football as he’s on table two to go up against John Astley. The other two matches sees Anthony McGill looking to progress in his home tournament when he takes on Sean O’Sullivan while Jamie Clarke will meet Hammad Miah in the other one.

There are only two matches in the second part of the evening on Tuesday. Neil Robertson will look to back up his win over Mark Davis on Monday night when he meets a Himanshu Dinesh Jain who is highly likely to be out of his depth, especially with that match being on the main table. The other table is probably likely to offer up a more competitive contest. That sees the former world champion Ken Doherty going up against Gary Wilson.

Betting

Joe Perry is in pretty decent form at the minute and I fancy he can continue that against a Graeme Dott, who as I mentioned last week when I opposed him, isn’t in the greatest form this season. Dott might be more inspired here because he is at the venue and this is his home tournament but that can come with pressure. Dott has been to the last 16 of this event twice since it came back on the circuit but he’s had a couple of first round defeats and failed in the qualifying last year so his record in this tournament is mixed at best.

Perry reached the quarter final of the UK Championship a couple of weeks ago where he had Neil Robertson and Stuart Bingham among his victims. He followed that up by making the final stages of the German Masters last week so he’ll be feeling very good about his chances. He is a little like Robert Milkins who we took on Monday. He is playing with the confidence of having won a title last season which is going to look after his ranking until that event comes around next season so he can play a little more relaxed than some on the tour. That is serving him well and I fancy he will come through here.
