Scottish Open Snooker 2022 – Day 4 Tips and Betting Preview

It is what many call ‘Moving Day’ at the Scottish Open on Thursday as the remaining second round matches are played out in the afternoon session before the entire last 16 of the latest Home Nations event get played in the evening.

At the end of the day we will be left with eight players and will know out line-up for the quarter finals which take place on Friday as we get nearer to finding out who will be the latest man to lift the Stephen Hendry Trophy. Time restrictions will deny us the chance to preview the last 16 but we’ll go through the remainder of the second round here.

Early Afternoon Session

Four matches take place in the first of the two slots of matches in the afternoon session and it will be the recently crowned UK Championship winner Mark Allen who will be on the main table. He goes up against the Thai speedster Thepchaiya Un-Nooh while over one the second table the home star John Higgins will be looking to make it into the last 16. He has to come past Jamie Jones to do that. Jack Lisowski is also on show in the early part of the afternoon. He meets Ali Carter while the other match is an all-Chinese battle between Tian Pengfei and Xiao Guodong.

Later Afternoon Session

It is Kyren Wilson who will occupy the main table in the second part of the afternoon. He has a clash with another of the home stars who are left in the tournament in the form of Stephen Maguire. That is the headline clash in the later part of the afternoon but the match between Yan Bingtao and Hossein Vafaei could steal the show. There is another decent match on show in the second part of the afternoon when Ryan Day meets Ricky Walden. The other match sees Sam Craigie looking to continue his good run of form when he meets Zhang Anda.

Betting

There is one bet I like over the course of the afternoon. Bookmakers don’t seem to be able to split Ryan Day and Ricky Walden but based on the season each have put together so far the Welshman should be favoured for their clash in the second part of the afternoon. Walden hasn’t won three matches in the same tournament all campaign and the good work he has done over the last two seasons is in danger of being put to waste unless that changes soon.

That certainly isn’t the case for Day. He has won a title this season when he took the British Open down and since then he has run into a couple of monster performances by Fan Zhengyi at the Champion of Champions and Sam Craigie at the UK Championship. It is generally taking a good performance to beat Day at the minute and Walden hasn’t been producing too many of those of late. If this one goes to the form of the season so far then Day has to be the most likely winner, particularly with the confidence of wins over form players such as Fan Zhengyi and Lyu Haotian to his name this week already.

Tips

Back R.Day to beat R.Walden for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
