32 players qualified for the Shanghai Masters at the start of the week and now we are left with just two as Judd Trump and Kyren Wilson will do battle for the title over the best of 19 frames on Sunday.
Trump is no stranger to major finals but this will be Wilson’s first ever final and a win would really catapult him up the rankings with effectively £50,000 on the line between winning and losing this match.
Trump got revenge for his World Championship defeat in the semi-final when he took care of Stuart Bingham in an entertaining and for the early part high quality match on Saturday. He’ll be feeling confident going into this final.
Wilson was far too good for a disappointing Mark Allen in the semi-final to keep this dream week going. He banged in four breaks over 50 in a really assured performance which was to his credit given the marathon match he had played the day before.
I’m expecting this to be a high scoring final as both players, like most do in the game these days, like to get the balls open and go on the attack. Initially I can see Wilson being competitive but the longer it goes the better I expect Trump to get and I see him running away with this a little come the end.
Wilson played some lovely stuff against Allen but Allen scored in every frame even in a 6-1 defeat so that has to be a concern. Trump is a much heavier scorer than Allen so Wilson won’t get away with giving Trump the same chances. Credit where it is due to Wilson for getting this far but I sense his big day will end in a fairly comfortable defeat.
Back J.Trump (-3.5 frames) to beat K.Wilson for a 4/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
