Sky Bet Championship 2021-22 – QPR vs Luton Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Sky Bet Championship returns from the international break on Friday night and it does so in the capital with what should be an entertaining match as QPR take on Luton Town in a clash of two teams who are very good to watch.

QPR went into the break in the top six in the division and can end the night in fifth place in the table. Luton start out just outside the top 10 but believe they are worthy of a much loftier position. They will break into the top six if they win this match.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels. The build-up to the contest begins at 7pm and kick off in London is at 7.45pm.

QPR

This has been a bit of a rollercoaster season for QPR already. They made a good start having won three of their opening five matches, then they went four without a win and have now won four of their last eight. If you are a half glass empty person they have only won one of their last four outings. The basic point is that they have not been the easiest team to read and it is open to debate whether you want to trust them or not.

The statistics will tell you that QPR might be enjoying a higher league position than they deserve. They sit sixth in the table and only the top two have scored more goals than them, but actually they sit in the bottom half of the table in xG this term and if you are a believer that things like that come together in the end then you would expect the Londoners to falter at some point. Whether that is here or not remains to be seen.

Luton Town

When you consider that the sign of a good season for Luton initially is progress from the campaign before, the fact they are in 11th spot when they were 12th last term suggests they are on course to deliver their ambition, however the way they have started the season it wouldn’t be a surprise if they have adjusted their goals slightly. When you look at the table numbers they paint an inconsistent story with six wins to five draws and five defeats, however three of those losses were to teams in the top five.

While QPR are outperforming their xG, Luton are nowhere near parity in that regard. They are actually fourth in the league in that metric and again if you believe those things join together than Luton are going to win some matches soon and score a few goals in the process. Luton head into this match off the back of three wins in their last six but only one in their last three. If there is a concern for Luton it is that when they are off it they really struggle to contain sides. On the flip side of that, they go hunting the ball high up the pitch and are very dangerous when they are on it.

Team News

QPR have a few injury issues heading into this contest even after a two week break. Andre Gray has been confirmed as missing the match against his former club while there are doubts over Seny Dieng, Lee Wallace and Sam Field. Moses Odubajo and Lyndon Dykes are doubtful.

Luton have doubts over midfielder Luke Berry with him not expected to feature in the match. Fellow midfielder Henri Lansbury returns from suspension while Tom Lockyer and Jordan Clark will be looking to be involved from the start of the match.

Betting

I expect to see some goals here. These are two sides who like to get the ball into the front man and play on the front foot and you only have to look at their goal tallies to see they are pretty good at that. QPR have 28 goals in their 17 matches with just the top two bettering that tally but Luton aren’t far behind with 26. If you then look at the other end QPR have conceded 24 while Luton have conceded 22 so goals are generally in solid supply in matches these two are involved in.

QPR have scored in every Championship match this season while Luton have only failed to find the net once on their travels this term. Both teams are loaded with attacking personnel who are in decent form and under the floodlights there is often a natural tendency to attack. These two aren’t the best of friends anyway and there should be a decent atmosphere to will the ball into the back of the net. I like over 2.5 goals in this one.
