Big Matches

The televised matches in the Championship on Saturday see the top three in the table all in action. It begins at Craven Cottage where there is a huge clash between second placed Fulham and third placed West Bromwich Albion. The Londoners can open up a four point gap should they win the match but West Brom can finish the day in second place if they win. That is the first match of the day and the last match sees the leaders Bournemouth looking to take a giant step towards a return to the Premier League. They head to the Madejski Stadium to take on Reading knowing that if they win they will move at least eight points clear of third place. Reading could move as high as sixth with a victory.

Best of the Rest

Coventry City begin the day in fourth place in the table and they made the trip to Hull City, who are in the bottom three after a run of three successive defeats. The other team in the top six at the start of the day who are in action are Luton Town. They go to Deepdale looking to stay in front of the lengthy cavalry charge on 21 points. At the other end of the table, rock bottom Derby County will be looking for three points when they host Blackburn Rovers while Barnsley will be looking to end a horrible run when they go to Ashton Gate to take on a Bristol City who haven’t won at home seemingly since time began. Cardiff City begin life without Mick McCarthy one place above the relegation zone. They will look to snap a run of eight straight defeats when they go to Stoke City, who themselves will be looking to break out of a losing trot.

Betting

This is the beginning of another one of those crazy weeks so I’m not going to go too mad with bets here, particularly as the weather forecast for certain parts of the country doesn’t look the best. There is one which catches my eye though and that comes at the Liberty Stadium where I expect Swansea City to get the better of poor travellers Peterborough United, even allowing for the fact that Posh won their last away game.

That was only at Hull City who I saw last weekend in the flesh and they look a side who are completely dispirited right now so I’m not putting much weight behind that piece of form. It should be said Hull missed a penalty in that match too. In the other six away games they have played they lost the lot, failing to score on four of those occasions and in total they have shipped 19 times on their travels. Swansea took a while to get going this term as Russell Martin looked to change their style of play but they have won their last three home matches and are undefeated in five on their own turf. They have kept four clean sheets in that time and their latest win was against West Brom which was a statement win. Peterborough aren’t a good side on their travels and I expect Swansea to take advantage of that.
