Big Matches

We know two of the teams who will be competing in the Championship play-offs and on Monday their two opponents will be decided when five teams play out for the remaining two spots in the postseason. The big match comes from The New Den where Millwall are in control of their own destiny. If they beat Blackburn Rovers then they are into the play-offs. If they lose then Blackburn will have ended their season and given themselves a great chance to be in. A draw would open the door for Sunderland and West Brom to end up in the top six. Sunderland would have to win at Preston North End but should that not happen then a West Brom win at Swansea would complete a crazy turnaround for the Baggies.

Best of the Rest

Coventry City are the other team not yet assured of their place in the top six but a point away to Middlesbrough would secure it for them. Were they to lose they would miss out if both Millwall and Sunderland win. Burnley and Sheffield United play their final matches in the Sky Bet Championship before becoming a Premier League club. The champions host Cardiff while the Blades head to Birmingham City. At the other end of the table Reading, Blackpool and Wigan Athletic will all be League 1 clubs next season but before they go Reading go away to Huddersfield, Blackpool head to Norwich while Wigan welcome Rotherham United to the DW Stadium.

Betting

Sunderland had a chance to have control of their own destiny last week but they fluffed their lines when they conceded from a couple of set plays and now they are going to have to rely on results elsewhere going their way if they are going to make it into the play-offs. We saw last week that the pressure got to them and it created a crazy contest and I fancy we might get another one of those when they head to Preston North End on Monday.

Preston saw their feint hopes of making the top six end last week but now they get the chance to play party poopers in front of their home fans and I think they have a duty to look to entertain with Deepdale not exactly the highest scoring ground this season. With Preston having nothing to lose and no reason not to have a go and Sunderland’s defence beginning to creak a little too much for comfort and the need of the visitors to win I think we could see something of an end to end game here with plenty of goals.
