We are at that stage of the Sky Bet Championship season where teams are having to catch up with games after exploits in the cups or postponed games for whatever reason and three such rearranged matches take place on Tuesday evening.
Two of the three matches taking place over the course of the evening will be accessible to view via the red button service on Sky for those not going to any of the games. The other one will need social media for updates.
Huddersfield Town vs Bristol City (19.45 – Sky Red Button)
The first of the three matches to kick off does so at the John Smith’s Stadium where relegation threatened Huddersfield Town host a Bristol City side who will be looking to put a bad week behind them and get back to winning ways.
To be fair, Bristol City aren’t the only team who’ve had a bad week. Huddersfield Town have been thrashed 4-0 in their last two matches and while a loss at Burnley is fair enough and while not acceptable certainly understandable, the 4-0 home loss to Coventry on Saturday was a little less forgivable. I think after the win over Birmingham in the first game Neil Warnock took charge of most were expecting him to lead them to safety but quite quickly people are beginning to realise this squad are bottom of the league because they’re not very good, regardless of who is in charge of them. Bristol City were beaten at Cardiff at the weekend which isn’t a good result but form can go out of the window in a derby clash. The loss might also have been part of the aftermath of chasing Manchester City around for 90 minutes last week. Prior to that indifferent week, the Robins were unbeaten in nine in the Championship and on the road that loss was their first in seven. I’m prepared to give Bristol City the benefit of the doubt and take them without the draw in play to pile more misery on Warnock who might just have bitten off more than he can chew this time.

Reading vs Sheffield United (20.00)
There is an interesting match at the Select Car Leasing Stadium where Sheffield United will look to put a little more distance between them and the chasing pack in the race for automatic promotion when they make the trip to take on a Reading side who make Jekyll and Hyde look consistent!
Reading tend to follow a simple game plan. At home they are competitive and often come out with positive results while away from home they stink the place out as we saw on Saturday when they got walloped at Middlesbrough. They’ll be glad to be home here but they are going to need to improve on recent outings. They might be getting Sheffield United at a good time though. The Blades have hit a sticky patch and have an FA Cup quarter final on the horizon where a trip to Wembley is up for grabs. Sheffield United have lost three of their last four in the league and might just be finding the going a little too tough. I don’t want to be on Sheffield United. I’ve never thought they would go the course and distance in second place but I can’t oppose them with a side who have just been gubbed 5-0 even allowing for how good they are at home so I’ll leave this one alone.
West Bromwich Albion vs Wigan Athletic (20.00 – Sky Red Button)
The other match on Tuesday evening will have an impact on both ends of the table when West Brom attempt to put themselves back in the race for the play-offs when they host a Wigan Athletic side who are desperate for points as they attempt to stay in the division.
West Brom looked to be flying a few weeks ago and there was even talk that they were going to be the ones who would gate crash the top two. That isn’t going to happen now after a run of two wins in seven matches, although it should be said they have remained unbeaten at The Hawthorns while they have been on this wobble. Wigan looked like they were doomed but a third manager of the season looks to be turning them around in Shaun Maloney. Results have been much better under him, mostly because they have stopped conceding so many goals. Scoring them are still a concern though but at least they are a lot more competitive under the Scot. I still fancy West Brom to win this but their goalkeeping issues are more than a slight concern for me so I’m happy to let them win if they are good enough.
