Preview

The TV cameras head down to Wales on Wednesday night for the clash between Swansea City and Stoke City, two sides who are currently far enough away from relegation danger but that could easily change for whichever side loses should other results go against them. The other big match on the night comes from Portman Road where Ipswich Town look to go back to the top of the table when they play host to Watford who are pretty much just playing out their season.

Birmingham City fell into the bottom two in the table on Tuesday evening and they will be going in search of at least the point which will get them out of the relegation zone when they welcome Cardiff City to St Andrew’s. Blackburn Rovers are the other team who have yet to secure another season of Championship football. They head to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol City. Norwich City left the door ajar for the chasing pack in the race for the top six on Tuesday night and two sides looking to close the gap meet at the MKM Stadium where Hull City take on Middlesbrough. The other match sees West Brom looking to consolidate their top six position when they host already relegated Rotherham United.

Betting

There isn’t a huge amount that I like on Wednesday night really but one I can’t avoid a nibble at is for Ipswich Town and Watford to combine for over 3 goals. Ipswich home matches tend to be pretty crazy this season and indeed their last seven games at Portman Road have had at least three goals, with six of them having gone over that total. Given the opportunity that is in front of Ipswich, and the way they play most of the time anyway, I would expect them to go out and try to win this game and win it well.

Watford have nothing to play for in terms of a competitive sense but there has to be a number of their players unsure of their futures, not least with them not currently having a permanent manager, so this sort of game can be a shop window for them to perform. It was only a couple of weeks ago that Watford scored twice against a seemingly impenetrable Leeds United defence so you’ve got to think that the Hornets will threaten in this game. Championship matches at Portman Road are averaging more than four goals per match this term and this looks ripe for another goal-fest.
