Big Matches

The main TV cameras on Saturday afternoon head to Vicarage Road for the clash between a Watford side who won’t have given up hope of reaching the play-offs just yet and they will know if those ambitions are to remain intact then their match against Plymouth Argyle is simply a must win encounter. It might be that the bigger of the two TV games comes on the streamed offering where two sides in relegation danger meet at the MKM Stadium as Hull City welcome Luton Town with three points being massive for whichever side is able to get their hands on them.

Best of the Rest

It could be a huge day in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League with two of the three sides challenging for that getting the right to reply to the Sheffield United victory from Friday evening. Leeds United will go back to the top of the table if they can see off Swansea City at Elland Road but were the Whites to lose that match then Burnley could end the day in the top two and Leeds outside of it. The Clarets entertain play-off chasing Bristol City who have already been buoyed by the Coventry defeat on Friday night. At the other end of the table, with Derby County not in action Cardiff City have the chance to scoot clear of them when they host Sheffield Wednesday while Stoke City will look to pull away from danger when they welcome Queens Park Rangers to the Bet365 Stadium. Both teams will be looking for the points when Middlesbrough host Oxford United.

Betting

Two bets leap off the card in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday with the first of them being for both teams to score in the match between Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion at Carrow Road. You could make the case for both teams needing the points in the quest for the play-offs this season although in truth Norwich’s hopes have passed them by now, although their manager was adamant in his press conference that they haven’t given up hope of finishing in the top six. If he is true to his word then we can expect Norwich to go out and attack and West Brom will be looking to do likewise as they can jump over Coventry with a win here. Eight of the last 10 Norwich matches have seen both teams score while nine of the last 10 West Brom away games have cashed this bet too. It shouldn’t take much for two of the better attacking sides in the league to find the net of the other here.

Portsmouth are the obvious team to pick to win on Saturday. They have a really good record at Fratton Park where they have picked up nine of their 11 wins and that includes beating Leeds here earlier in the month. They host a Blackburn Rovers side whose hierarchy is making all the right noises about making the play-offs but their last three outings against poor teams in Derby County, Stoke City and Cardiff City were that of a team who have run their race. Valerien Ismael was a surprise choice to replace John Eustace in the hotseat and he hasn’t got any sort of bounce out of his side in the four matches he has had in charge of them. Portsmouth lost their last home match against Plymouth Argyle but there was a bit of a comedown as an excuse for that as they had the emotional high of the win over Leeds three days previously. In the main though Portsmouth are very good at home and with Blackburn fading fast a home win is expected here, although this is the Championship so I’ll take the draw cover on offer wherever we can get it!

Tips

Back Norwich City vs West Bromwich Albion – Both teams to score for a 3/10 stake at 1.85 with William Hill

Back Portsmouth (-0.25AH) to beat Blackburn Rovers for a 3/10 stake at 1.95 with William Hill
