Preview
The main TV cameras head up to the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening where the former leaders Sunderland will look to go back to the top of the table for 24 hours at least when they host a hard to beat West Bromwich Albion who begin the night in sixth place in the table. Sunderland only need a point to go top but were they not to get it then Sheffield United could move to the summit if they can avoid defeat in their home match against an Oxford United who are just starting to find the going a little tough at second tier level after a promising start.
Burnley begin the night in fourth spot in the table and despite their fairly low-key style on the eye, were Sunderland and Sheffield United to only draw, they could move to the top of the table if they can beat Coventry City at Turf Moor. Down at the other end of the table Plymouth Argyle will be looking to move a little further clear of danger when they go to Carrow Road to take on an out of form Norwich City side. Hull City dropped into the bottom three over the weekend and have a home match against Sheffield Wednesday where a point will bring them out of the danger zone. The other two matches see Stoke City hosting Preston North End and Watford welcoming Bristol City to Vicarage Road.
Betting
This doesn’t look a massively appealing card it has to be said with the teams who are warm favourites carrying a few injuries but they are all playing teams I wouldn’t want to be carrying my money. In saying that, while Norwich City are without a few players you would rather they would have, they went to West Brom on Saturday and created an xG of nearly 2 against a Baggies side who give next to nothing away so maybe they will be able to cope with their absent players when Plymouth Argyle are in town.
Wayne Rooney has got Argyle playing some nice stuff on their own patch but away from home they are a bit of a shambles. They have two draws from eight games on their travels and have conceded 17 goals in that time. They also haven’t scored more than one goal away from home and only have two goals in those eight games overall. Norwich might go into the match without a win in seven but the loss to Bristol City prior to the international break is their only loss at Carrow Road this term and that came after two away trips earlier that week which would have tested them with injuries biting. A repeat of their effort on Saturday should be enough to do a bit of a job on a Plymouth side who have shipped four at Sheffield Wednesday and five at Cardiff this season.
