Preview

The main TV cameras make their way to Deepdale on Wednesday night to see whether the leaders Sunderland can stay out in front in the table when they head south to take on a Preston North End side who are the pillar of inconsistency. If Sunderland were to lose that match then Leeds United would have the chance to make it up to top spot when they head to the capital to take on a Millwall side who will be looking for a second big home win in the space of a few days after they took care of Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

Blackburn Rovers have the chance to move back into the top six on Wednesday evening when they welcome Stoke City to Ewood Park. A Blackburn win would see them back in the playoff spots. Ehsewhere, Coventry City will be looking for a third successive win when they host Derby County at the CBS Arena while the other match sees Cardiff City bidding to go a seventh match unbeaten when they go to Kenilworth Road to take on Luton Town.

Betting

The bet that stands out to me on Wednesday evening is for Coventry City to beat Derby County. I was waiting for Coventry to start coming up with the goods and unfortunately it was my own team Luton Town who gave them a jump start but their win over the Hatters was impressive and you could argue that following it up with a 3-0 win at Middlesbrough at the weekend was another notch up on the impressive front and a third straight win has to be well within their talents.

Derby County are their opponents here and they head to Coventry without a win on their travels. They didn’t really offer too much at Stoke at the weekend and I have Coventry a good level better than the Potters. The other thing to note with Coventry is that they have a fairly deep squad these days, particularly in the offensive areas of the pitch, so they might have more room to rotate if not from the beginning here then certainly when players tire in the second half. I expect Coventry to show that there is a decent sized gulf between the two sides.
