We’ve reached the busy Easter period in Skybet League 2 with a set of matches on Good Friday and another on Easter Monday so this weekend is really going to play a big part in the overall outcome of the season.
Good Friday’s fixtures are as follows:
Accrington v Leyton Orient
Bristol Rovers v Cambridge
Exeter v Barnet
Hartlepool v Wimbledon
Morecambe v Plymouth
Northampton v Newport
Oxford Utd v Stevenage
Portsmouth v Notts County
Wycombe v Mansfield
Yeovil v Carlisle
York v Crawley
In theory Northampton can get promoted over Easter if they win both their matches and other results go the way they want and I don’t think many would oppose them with Newport but as you would expect after the run they have been on they are suitably priced and I don’t really want to be taking sides to cover big handicaps.
There are a number of short priced teams in this division in this set of matches. Bristol Rovers, Exeter, Portsmouth and Oxford are all odds on. You could argue that they are such a price with justification but it is the nature of this league that at least one of them will slip up and at this time of year it is never easy to choose which ones.
At the bottom of the table it is a huge day for York and Stevenage. With Dagenham not playing both sides have the chance to move away from them but with Stevenage going to Oxford this is a big chance for York when they host Crawley especially as Stevenage don’t play on Monday. In theory back to back wins would have York right back in the hunt to escape.
A number of sides in the playoffs or pushing for them are in action on Friday with the key match looking like Accrington vs Leyton Orient. Both sides are in the top seven going into Easter but with the chasing pack closing in neither can afford a defeat so there is pressure on both there.
I’ve weighed up the runners and riders in the division this season and in the end I’ve decided to go with the one bet here. It comes on a Wycombe side who have won their last three at Adams Park and they take on a Mansfield side on the slide and who have lost their last three away from the One Call Stadium.
I’ve not really rated Mansfield all season and while they’ve been quite vocal about their chances this campaign I’ve never seen anything that suggested to me that they would see out the distance in the promotion shake up.
Wycombe have done this before. They know all about seeing it through to the near end and I’m expecting them to draw on that past to finish the season well here. As he always seems to do Gareth Ainsworth has used the loan market again this week to bring in the necessary reinforcements and that should further boost Wycombe.
At a decent price on a 0.25 Asian line which gives us the draw cover if Wycombe do struggle in front of goal, the Chairboys look the best bet on this particular fixture list.
