Skybet League 2 – Good Friday Matches Betting Preview

There old adage is that Easter is where the key issues are decided in the English football season and if that is the case we are in for a busy four days in Skybet League 2 where matches come on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

There are full rounds of fixtures on both days so all 24 teams have the chance to pick up a significant point haul to take them towards their ambition for the campaign. On Friday we have some TV action for the division to add to the profile of the day.

Friday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)

Portsmouth v Plymouth Argyle 14:30

Blackpool v Accrington Stanley

Colchester United v Doncaster Rovers

Crawley Town v Cheltenham Town

Crewe Alexandra v Notts County

Exeter City v Barnet

Grimsby Town v Cambridge United

Hartlepool United v Carlisle United

Luton Town v Leyton Orient

Newport County v Yeovil Town

Stevenage v Morecambe

Wycombe Wanderers v Mansfield Town

Big Matches

The match of the day in the division comes from Fratton Park where third placed Portsmouth host second placed Plymouth. A win for either will almost put them over the line in the promotion race but defeat could open the door for those behind.

Elsewhere already promoted Doncaster head to Colchester while Luton could put the final nail in Leyton Orient’s coffin when the two meet at Kenilworth Road. Stevenage take on a fading Morecambe side.

Best of the Rest

There is a huge clash at the bottom of the table when Newport play host to Yeovil while Carlisle and Exeter look to maintain a playoff push when they head to Hartlepool and host Barnet respectively. Two form sides meet at Bloomfield Road when Blackpool welcome Accrington with the winners getting right back into the playoff picture.

Betting

There are three bets I like on Good Friday. The first is in the TV game where the Asian odds on Plymouth are just ridiculous. Yes Portsmouth have found some form of late but they haven’t really beaten anyone and Plymouth are the best side in the division on the road. I don’t think the visitors will lose this match but even if they lose by one we get a full refund. That is insane on a side who won at Doncaster a couple of weeks ago and have only lost four of their 20 matches on the road this term.

A draw probably isn’t a bad result for Portsmouth in that match so the goal start that Plymouth get should be jumped upon to get us underway for the afternoon.

Stevenage suffered a tonking last week but I expect them to get back on the horse when they welcome Morecambe to the Lamex on Friday. That defeat to Colchester looked like a blip given that they scored two own goals but Stevenage have been in excellent form at home winning their last eight and with Morecambe’s season as good as done I take Stevenage to get back to winning ways in style here.

Notts County are finishing the season with a flourish and that can continue against a Crewe side who are missing one or two key players and who have little motivation left in the campaign. Normally County wouldn’t have a lot but given their new owner is quite ambitious I’m expecting them to play to the end this season. We can get them on a draw no bet line but wins at Carlisle and Wycombe recently suggest Notts County should be a touch shorter than that.
