Skybet League 2 – Newport County vs Stevenage Betting Preview

The lower leagues might be on stop for a couple of cups at the minute but there is one match in League 2 on Tuesday night as Graham Westley and his Newport County side host his former employers Stevenage at Rodney Parade.

Newport County

The Welsh side go into this match bottom of the table but they will move up four places with a win. They had launched some decent form since Westley has arrived but they have now gone three matches without a win and off the field Westley has been caught up in press conference controversy and a member of the staff has left claiming the manager is ‘impossible to work with’ (and in other news night follows day!).

Despite their upturn in form Newport remain with just one win at home all season and clearly if they are going to escape the problems they are in they need to start winning at home. They could do without their manager dragging more attention on the place either.

Stevenage

A sudden run of consistent results have moved Stevenage from a struggling side up to halfway in the table and a win here would move them into the top 10 which would be pretty significant. They need to put Saturday’s defeat behind them but the way they fought back against Doncaster on Saturday they might have left that match with a winning feeling despite the loss.

Although they had an inconsistent start to the season Stevenage have one of the better recent away records in the league. They have clearly found a method that works for them away from home as they have won their last four away games including at Portsmouth in their last road trip.

Betting

Initially I wasn’t going to bet on this match but the more I look at it the more I think there could be value on the visitors especially while we can get a +0.25 line on the Asian handicaps. Stevenage suffered a first defeat in a while on Saturday but defeat to Doncaster is nothing to be ashamed of.

Whether it is the outside influences or just a bad snap I’m not sure but Newport aren’t in the best of form and they will be missing Sean Rigg after his sending off in the cup on Saturday. That meant Newport played 67 minutes with 10 men so they could be a little jaded here which leads me to thinking Stevenage can get a result of some kind.
