With Easter almost upon us we’re hitting the make or break time of the Skybet League 2 season with another full round of matches coming along on Saturday.
Saturday’s Skybet League 2 fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)
Newport v Bristol Rovers (12.30)
Stevenage v Northampton
Barnet v Oxford Utd
Cambridge v Yeovil
Carlisle v Wycombe
Crawley v Hartlepool
Wimbledon v York
Leyton Orient v Morecambe
Mansfield v Portsmouth
Notts County v Exeter
Plymouth v Luton
Dag & Red v Accrington
There are a lot of tight looking matches in this set of fixtures, as there always are in this division. Barnet vs Oxford is a match which sees an excellent home side playing one of the better sides on the road so there isn’t an angle in there while Plymouth, often reliable at home face a Luton side who have performed well on the road this season.
Of the matches that don’t look tight or even AFC Wimbledon are in no form taking on York and Accrington’s slide has well and truly begun. Both face sides fighting for their lives and they are trappy matches which I’m keen to avoid.
Hartlepool’s mini revival is enough to put me off taking Crawley to beat them while Leyton Orient look too short given their inconsistency. There isn’t a lot that lures me in across this card although I have found a couple of bets I like.
Predictably one of those is on the leaders Northampton. The Cobblers actually cost me last week when they conceded a last minute equaliser but I’m prepared to go in on them again when they travel to a Stevenage side who have plenty of injuries piling up and who as a result have lost any semblance of form.
That equaliser from Cambridge last week aside, Northampton are showing no signs of backtracking at the minute and they remain the devastating side they have been all season on the road. Their recent 4-1 win at Carlisle is testament to that.
All things being equal I would expect the leaders to pile more misery on a Stevenage side for whom this has been an absolutely wretched season.
Another side who have fallen apart in recent times are Notts County. Everything seems to be going wrong for them. Their owner has put the club up for sale, they were issued with a winding up order which has been put on hold for a few weeks and there just looks to be some uncertainty around the place right now.
Exeter are the opposite. They’ve really kicked on in the last few weeks and are looking to push for a finish as high as they can possibly get and that would be a decent achievement wherever they end up given that their top scorer went in January.
Exeter will head to the Trent in good spirits after a decent run of form and I think they can take advantage of timid opponents very much short on morale.
WON – Back Northampton to beat Stevenage for a 4/10 stake at 2.10 with Stan James
WON – Back Exeter to beat Notts County (DNB) for a 4/10 stake at 2.00 with Bwin
