Skybet League 2 – Saturday 27th August Matches Betting Preview

The hectic August continues in League 2 on Saturday when the fourth round of fixtures in the division take place with many sides facing a seventh match in 22 days which really is stretching into the brutal stakes it must be said.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:

Accrington v Morecambe

Barnet v Carlisle

Blackpool v Plymouth

Cambridge v Luton

Cheltenham v Crewe

Crawley v Notts County

Doncaster v Yeovil

Exeter v Portsmouth

Grimsby v Stevenage

Hartlepool v Newport

Leyton Orient v Mansfield

Wycombe v Colchester

Big Matches

The leaders Morecambe (yes that’s right Morecambe!) head on the short journey to Accrington looking to maintain their lead at the top of the table. If they slip up then Crawley could go top if they can find a win at home to Notts County. Third placed Luton head to bottom of the table Cambridge looking to regain top spot if those above them fail to win. Blackpool vs Plymouth is a match between two of the bigger sides in the league.

Best of the Rest

Wycombe and Colchester will both be hoping to be in at least the playoff mix heading into the business end of the season and they meet at Adams Park while Leyton Orient and Mansfield are two sides who will also have that as their target and they do battle at Brisbane Road. Exeter vs Portsmouth should be pleasing on the eye.

Betting

With all the matches these sides have had this month I’m not going too mad this week. I’m going with a bit of logic and a bit of what I know in taking two bets over the course of the entire fixture list.

The logical bet is on the leaders Morecambe. They head to an Accrington side who have to be knackered after going to extra time on Wednesday night and then they had the emotional highs of winning in front of a huge crowd and will have to get themselves up for playing in front of hardly anyone and that isn’t easy.

Morecambe have already shown their quality this season and have won their last three in the league. How long they can keep that going for remains to be seen but the signs are that they can do enough to avoid defeat here which is all we need for a winning bet.

I’m also going to take my own side Luton. I’ve mentioned previously how I don’t rate Luton’s chances this season as highly as the bookmakers but they do have all the necessary equipment to have their players as fresh as any side in this league and in fairness to Nathan Jones he has done well to rotate as many of his side as possible.

Cambridge head into the match winless so far on the season and with plenty of injuries hampering them which isn’t ideal in what many of their fans see as one of the biggest matches of the campaign.

I’ve mentioned before how Luton are much better away from home than at Kenilworth Road right now and they are unbeaten in their last seven in the league at Cambridge. I probably wouldn’t have taken them without draw cover but we do get some cover and that’s enough to tempt me in.
