The final quarter of the Skybet League 2 season gets underway on Saturday when another full round of fixtures take place. There are huge matches at the top and the bottom of the table on what has the feel of a pivotal day about it.
Saturday’s matches are as follows:
Accrington Stanley v Barnet
Blackpool v Morecambe
Cambridge United v Colchester United
Cheltenham Town v Mansfield Town
Crawley Town v Doncaster Rovers
Grimsby Town v Wycombe Wanderers
Hartlepool United v Exeter City
Newport County v Leyton Orient
Plymouth Argyle v Carlisle United
Portsmouth v Crewe Alexandra
Stevenage v Notts County
Yeovil Town v Luton Town
Big Matches
Two of the top three meet in the game of the day when Plymouth host Carlisle at Home Park. Leaders Doncaster will be looking to take advantage of that fixture when they head to Crawley. At the other end of the table the bottom two do battle at Rodney Parade in a match between Newport and Leyton Orient in which the losers are surely doomed to relegation.
Best of the Rest
Portsmouth and Luton will be looking to take advantage of any dropped points above them in the table. Portsmouth host Crewe while Luton head to Yeovil. There is a derby between Blackpool and Morecambe at Bloomfield Road while two form sides meet when Stevenage take on Notts County.
Betting
This is a tough set of fixtures to find many bets on. At the beginning of the week I was going to be all over Luton here but the effort they put into their Checkatrade Trophy semi-final on Wednesday makes them less appealing now. It will take a monumental effort to be anywhere near their best in that match.
In the end I’m going with just one and that is on a Morecambe side who despite all their troubles in recent times remain one of the better sides in the division away from home, a point they proved in midweek when they went and picked up a draw at Portsmouth.
Blackpool are now seven matches without a win at home and they only have one win in their last 10 matches in the league overall. They might have drawn their last five at home but anyone backing them at odds on given that record must be crazy. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is another draw given the derby credentials but at the prices I simply have to be against Blackpool in that one.
