While the big football attention on Tuesday night centres around the Champions League those who like their lower league English football will be just as happy as League Two has another set of fixtures.
In total there are 11 fixtures on Tuesday night and they are as follows:
Accrington v Wimbledon
Bristol Rovers v Notts County
Hartlepool v Barnet
Luton v Leyton Orient
Morecambe v Crawley
Northampton v Carlisle
Oxford Utd v Plymouth
Portsmouth v Stevenage
Wycombe v Newport
Yeovil v Mansfield
York v Dag & Red
This looks like another tricky set of matches in a league which is becoming increasingly tight. Annoyingly the good sides are all playing each other and the rubbish ones are playing in good spots too so that takes some of the potential away from this round of matches.
There really is an even feel to this set of games so picking out bets is difficult but I’ve been priced in on a couple to keep us interested ahead of the weekend.
Mansfield have started the season well, so much so that their manager got a bit giddy last week and told the whole world how his team were good enough to get promoted this season. I’m not convinced that is the case but if he is to live up to those words then his side really need to be beating an injury ravaged Yeovil side.
Yeovil have only won one of their last nine matches and were beaten by Notts County at the weekend. They do have some options going forward but their injury issues are really hurting them defensively.
Mansfield will have to make changes with Nicky Hunt and Krystian Pearce both suspended after their red cards on Saturday but that aside they look well set. Matt Green is a decent forward at this level and the midfield get up to support him. If Mansfield have anything about themselves this is a match they should win.
Another side I’m priced in on are Luton. It is rare these days that Luton are underdogs on their own patch and I’m not so sure they should be here.
Luton’s defeat on Saturday was their first in their last six league matches and after a sticky start to the season John Still’s men look to be coming good again. They will be disappointed with the way they folded on Saturday as the match had looked easy for them but that could only generate a reaction here.
I’m not sure how Leyton Orient are favourites against anyone let alone at Luton. I mentioned how overrated I see them in Saturday’s preview and until Oxford went down to 10 men they were in control against them. That draw means Orient have only won once in their last eight which was against a strangely much changed Notts County side.
The visitors are flattered by their league position and have already been to Kenilworth Road in the JPT and lost this season. They might not lose this game although I do expect them to but with at least a half win as long as Luton don’t lose the game this is an opportunity we’re not going to get too often. I actually expect Luton to go off at least a level ball so I’m going to jump at the +0.25 chance.
