After a rain affected opening T20 in Centurion on Friday which South Africa came out on the right side of both them and Sri Lanka head to Johannesburg for the second match in the series on Sunday.
South Africa go there knowing a win will secure the series for them with one match still to play while Sri Lanka will be fully aware that they need to win in order to keep the series alive and force a decider.
South Africa
We can’t really get much of a feel for the South African bowling attack after the first game because it is just a lttery in a 10 over slog fest but we will get a better idea of their quality in this match because at altitude in the Highveld the bowlers will need all of their skills and control to try and restrict Sri Lanka.
The one thing we did see in Centurion was the power and force they have with the bat and the dominance they have over this Sri Lanka bowling attack and on this of all grounds you would think that strength would only be further highlighted.
Sri Lanka
Although it was only in a 10 over slog the Sri Lanka batsmen didn’t look too inconvenienced by different conditions to the ones they are used to which is a positive for them going into this match and beyond in the series. You got the feeling in that match that they need someone to bat around but if they find that they can be dangerous.
Sri Lanka never really got the chance to show their skills and trickery with the ball at Centurion but they will hope they can utilise them here and if they can then they might be able to put a little more pressure on South Africa and their batsmen which in turn will ease the pressure on their own batters.
Team News
South Africa went with two spinners in Centurion but spinners aren’t known to go well here so Dane Paterson could come into the side. Reeza Hendricks will hope to get the nod on his home ground.
Sri Lanka are expected to be unchanged unless they can find a spot in the side for Isuru Udana. That isn’t guaranteed though.
Betting
We’re at the Bullring for this match which means betting on the match outcome is quite tricky because the ground is impossible to defend as we’ve seen time and time again here.
With that in mind I have to go back to the sixes market. I probably wouldn’t have done so had Sri Lanka not hit the sixes they did in Centurion but the fact they were able to hit them there gives me the confidence that between these two sides we will get up to 13 sixes on a tiny ground where the altitude makes the ball sail further.
